NRA Certified Instructor
« on: September 08, 2024, 09:43:42 PM »
Hey all,

This weekend I just finished all my requirements to be an NRA Certified Instructor for pistol.  I have no idea what, if anything, I will do with this credential, but I have it   :D

This was the only group I could think of to tell who would care!

That's pretty cool!  Ive got a idea for you.  You should do private classes with beautiful women for ridiculous amounts of money!

congratulations.  Was it difficult to get?

I mean, not too bad.  First I had to take the NRA's day-long Basics of Pistol class.   Then you take a one-day Basic Instructor Training that has a shooting qualification component.  It wasn't hard for me, but some struggled with it a little.  That makes you an "instructor," but you still have to take a class for each discipline you want to teach.  So I took the pistol instructor course which was another very long day of range and classroom time where they teach you how to teach the pistol curriculums.  All in all, 3 long-ish days, some studying, and about $700.

A humble brag here since I'm on the subject...  I shot the qualification with a double-action S&W revolver.  The NRA training counselor said I was the best DA revolver shooter he had ever seen that wasn't a nationally ranked competitor.  Maybe I missed my calling!  ;)

I'm not exactly sure what I am going to do with the credential yet.  I working on putting together some training focused on lawyers where I can provide both Continuing Legal Education credit and an NRA course completion.

Any consideration on teaching a familiarization course to the news media?  They sorely need something like that.

Congratulations Duane. As you may know, Karl was a certified NRA Instructor for years. He was doing his certification renewal a few years back and I forget what exactly happened, but they made it so difficult he said the heck with it. Anyway, glad you made it through with their new regime. Keep us informed if you should do something interesting with it. You never know what can happen with credentials such as that!

Best Regards Always,

Duane: Good luck and stay safe as you're probably going to take some kind of a hit, hopefully not flood damage to your home, but just some wind and rain.
