Would someone compare the ballistics of the R9 (which cannot shoot +P) and the R380 with +P ammunition? I am interested in seeing the dropoff of maximums of power and speed from the R9 to the R380.
The two are hard to compare and I do not have any tests with a R9.
Here are some tests that I recently did with a Kahr P380 with a 2 1/2" barrel. The R380 is about 1/3" longer and should yield 30 fps more velocity.
This is Underwood ammo using the Lehigh Extreme Defense bullet. The initial tests I have seen show penetration and wound cavity coming close to those of conventional 9mm self defense loads. The ammo fed, fired, and ejected perfectly in my P380.
Underwood 380 65 grain Extreme Defense STD Pressure - 1195, 1170, 1221, 1209, 1216, 1208, 1207, 1168, 1260, 1081 fps, Average – 1193 FPS, SD – 47, KE – 205 ft-lb
These were fired from a Kahr P380 with a 2 ½” barrel. Consistency was good except for the last shot.
Lehigh gel tested there bullet as 1150 FPS and had 14” of penetration. Underwood gel tested at 1300FPS and got 15” of penetration.
Underwood 380 65 grain Extreme Defense +P - 1314, 1278, 1273. 1265, 1332, 1305, 1325, 1277, 1259, 1309 FPS, Average – 1293 FPS, SD – 26, KE – 241 ft-lb
Again, these were fired from the Kahr 380. Good consistency for +P and a short barreled pistol. All fed, fired and ejected without a problem.
