This would probably be the last round one would need if it were used in self-defense.

This round could be a bit too much for the average CCW shooter.

Lawyers may have a field day with it, if used in self-defense.

That is truly impressive, but I see there being a ban prior to or soon after any mass production preventing self defense use in many places.
Hope I'm wrong.

The design of that bullet appears to have "law suit and/or prosecution" written all over it.  And is there any ballistic information to show that the design would expand any more reliably than one of the high-end scored HPs already available?

Shooting dozens of rounds of any frangible ammo full auto into a gel block is going to look awesome.

I think this round is going to perform very similar to the Liberty Halo round.  The petals on the Liberty Halo break off and stop within 4 to 5 inches and the core which is something like a .25" after the breakup, tumbles for an additional 4 to 5 inches.

I think the RIP is going to be like shooting someone with 8 pellets of copper birdshot and a truncated 25 ACP at the same time.  I think I'd rather just have a single projectile make a 60 caliber hole to a depth of 14" or so.

You can put a new marketing twist on frangible ammo but you can't change the laws of physics.

You can put a new marketing twist...

And to that point--the video they made is extraordinarily well done. Sucked me right in. Next time I spot the RIP at Walmart I'm buyin' 3 boxes!

My biggest concern is a 90 grain bullet with that radical profile being a reliable feeder in what ever small 9mm you choose to carry.

It just does not look like it will work to me.

1.  Legal viewpoint:  what Richard S. said.  This will be a lawsuit magnet if used.
2.  Political viewpoint:  Likely to be proscribed by the government.
3.  Medical viewpoint:  I would sure as hell be unhappy to try to treat a victim of this round, assuming he/she survived to get to the hospital...really nasty wound!
4.  Personal protection viewpoint:  Great ammo when survival depends on a one shot put-down, especially because it would appear that perfect shot placement may not be as necessary.

I'll be interested in the outcome.

Here is another video.  Not very scientific.  I was a little disappointed as this guy's work is usually better.
