R9 No. 132 after 9 Years of EDC

I took delivery of my R9 No. 132 (Farmingdale) on May 14, 2004. It has been my practice to post a photograph of the piece in May of each year. Here it is after 9 years of EDC use.

How often or how many rounds do you have down the pipe, ballpark?

I have carried my Tribute ever day from the time I have bought it.  I was thinking about buying another one for range use?

I ran 67 rounds through it at the initial range session. Since then I've maintained a practice of shooting the ammunition in the carry magazines every few months and then changing out the magazines and loading fresh ammunition. This beauty has been pampered for the past 9 years. To date, it has shown no vices or undue signs of wear. Some of the credit for that has to be given to Ballistol, FrogLube, and Renaissance Wax.

You are a very lucky man. In 2002 I was a totally broke college student who couldn't afford text books; seriously I had to stop a the library every day and re check them out. Anyway, times have changed but I still envy those who have had them from the beginning. Congrats on 9 great years.

When I first took possession of it I was pleasantly surprised of the quality and the looks of it.  My FFL liked it so much he wanted to order one.  I appreciate all the help from guys on this forum including you and Richard as I have learned much!

I only hope mine looks as good as No. 132 in half as much time as his.  It has really been a pleasure to be part of this forum as the quality of people on it are top notch much like Rohrbaugh.

To tell you the truth I like my pup so much I would like to get another one in the future, possibly NP3'd or hard chromed.

I have been fascinated with Brian's "animal hide" veneered grips.  You have had them awhile now, are they functional as well as good looking?

I change out recoil springs every 200 rounds or so. Early on, I stocked up on the original design of spring (closed on one end only), but my supply is running low and it's about time to order a number of the new design (closed on both ends).

Those grips Brian made for me have been on the R9 since I received them early this year. He made them by overlaying the leather on a standard pair of Hogue grips. I don't know how he achieved the result, whether by thinning the leather or grinding down the Hogues or both, but the result was to add only minimal thickness to the grips. Recognizing that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," I have found them to be as functional as they are good looking.

As I understand it, Brian prefers to work with sting ray leather, and the results he achieves with that medium are stunning. I chose to "Africanize" my R9 for personal reasons based on four of the more . . . interesting . . . years in my past.
