New 380 owner
« on: January 04, 2013, 06:28:57 PM »
I finally decided to buy a Rohrbaugh model 380 today.  The LGS had two 380's and a 9 mm.  I walked out with the two tone 380 and two boxes of ammo.  Time and weather permitting I will shoot it tomorrow.  The manufacture date on the warranty card was Feb 2009.  It looks like a beautiful pistol.  It was easy to take down and reassemble.  I hope it shoots as well as I expect it to.  Thanks for all of the advice you share on the forum.  It has been very helpful to me.  Steve

Welcome, and congratulations, Steve. The .380 should serve you well and hold its value. I never intended to sell any Rohrbaughs but it helps to know you own a marketable asset.

What Tracker and Reinz said.  8)

I predict that you will find the felt recoil of that locked-breech Rohrbaugh K-380 to be surprisingly gentle.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!  I was able to get to the range today and shoot my 380.  It was quite cold, in the low 20's so I only fired a total of 44 rounds.  The ammunition I used was Speer Gold Dot 90 gr GDHP (24 rounds) and Hornady Custom 90 gr XTP (20 rounds).  The gun was a pleasure to fire and I experienced no stoppages or failures.  Accuracy was much better than I expected considering the minimum distance at the range I go to is 15 yards.  When I got home and cleaned the pistol I really looked it over and the workmanship is incredible.  I put off buying a Rohrbaugh for a long time because of the price.  I am so glad I finally made the right move and bought the 380.

Finally received my brand new R380 which was actually built in 2011.  Beautiful stainless slide model.  First range session was good, only two failures to return fully into battery, which I attribute to the gun being brand new and not broken in.  I shot a group of FMJ and JHP ammo without problem.

Good accuracy, very mild recoil.  If I can convince my wife to get her permit, this will be her gun.  Until then, I can practice with it some and save wear and tear on the R9.

Congrats on your new 380!! These are beautiful guns and works of art!  Glad to hear your range session was flawless.  I just had my second range session since I bought mine back in the fall.  I did have a few minor issues, but after speaking with Karl, I decided to send the gun back in for a look over.  I had a few FTE's.   I will compile and post my range report, and let you know how I make out.  Needless to say that I love my 380 and wouldn't trade it for the world.
