Belt holster
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:56:50 AM »
Ok, this may sound a little gay, lol, but all my pants ARE NOT BAGGY lets say......Sounds better than saying their tight, their just tailored..... haha     So carrying my gun in the pocket of some of my jeans and khaki's is a little difficult and terribly uncomfortable so I'm looking to buy a belt holster to wear at the small of my back.  So I found ready holster.com and they have a very low profile one with a metal clip for the belt.  Any other ideas before I buy it??  Thanks.

Ankle holsters are out due to my legs are part of my defense when lethal action may not be warranted, speaking martial arts of course.  But those are nice, padded and all

JT:

I speak just for myself on this subject, but I find that wearing a holstered weapon at the small of my back becomes very uncomfortable after an hour or so. I own a beautiful custom-made SoB holster, but after trying unsuccessfully to get used to it I just relegated it to my holster storage bin. There is also the consideration that a chance of serious injury exists if you were to fall or be thrown to the ground on your back with a holstered gun resting against your spine. When I carry a belted gun, I therefore wear it at the "4:00 o' clock" or "cross-draw" position.

Good luck in your search.

Richard, I agree the SS feels best at 4 o'clock.

good point.  So let me rephrase the question.  Who makes a belt holster that I could put on my belt at any position around my waist.  A lot of my shirts aren't very long so the small of the back first came to mind, but then again neither is the barrel of this fine crafted weapon.  There are pants and shorts that I will continue to use my pocket holster but I need another choice for particular clothing to be comfortable and safe.

Robert Meco is a member of this Forum and offers a variety of holsters on his web site. If you don't find what you want listed there, he can probably make any holster you want.

Robert at Meco makes a Billy holster that's a belt slide that also keeps the R9 very high on the belt.   And the Billy holster can be worn left or right side, strong side or cross draw.  It is lined as well, which makes for a nice draw and helps protect the finish of the pistol.

The High Country by Ryan Grizzle rides about as high as an R9 will get with an OWB carry.  Due to the length of the barrel, it hardly drops below the belt level at all.  He also makes a Town & Country IWB that is outstanding.

If you can cover to an inch below the belt with a shirt or jacket, you can cover the pistol with either the Billy or the High Country.  Of course you would want more to allow for movement, but these holsters ride very high.  In terms of quality, each is excellent and you can't go wrong.

Picking a carry holster can be personal thing sometimes.

After carrying for almost 40 years now, I have a chest of drawers in the garage with two of the drawers stuffed full of holsters.  I also have holsters stashed in various cubbies and boxes here and there.  Then my active EDC holsters are either in the safe with my guns or in my closet with my clothes.

Basically, you are just going to have to experiment and see what is right for you.  Even if you buy something that does not work for now, save it; 5-10 years from now it may be perfect for your dress mode.

Most gun guys have holster boxes or as Richard called his - "Holster Storage Bin".  I bet he is more organized than me. :)

Good Luck

I like the Billy by Mecco...can be worn either side, and outside or inside the belt.  Stays close and tight.  Another option might be a tuckable.

My Rohrbaugh is a back up to my back up. I usually wear it in a Ken Null ankle holster including with jeans (Levis 505). Holster is very comfortable & secure and is usually worn from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  6 days a week. No one at family or neighborhood gatherings has ever noticed it when wearing casual slacks. You do have to give some thought to "leg placement" and how in the world you will be able to draw from any ankle holster.  Sometimes it is the only holster I can wear and I am much happier to have a 9mm than the .380's I used to use.

Welcome to the Forum.

My first "pocket" pistol (more years ago than I care to admit) having been a Walther PPK, I have a soft spot for the .380 ACP. However, I know what you mean about the 9mm Parabellum. It's just more . . . comforting , . . than the .380 -- or as my old German friends used to call it, the "9mm Kurz."
