Magazine Extension Combobulation

Hi y'all, I'm relatively new to your august forum.
I've poked around a while and I must say that this
is one of the nicest most supportive forums that I've
had the pleasure of reading.

I've wanted a small 9mm for some time now at least
smaller than the Glock G27 (40 S&W) and KelTec P11
pistols that I already own. I've carried quite a few pistols
(concealed) over the past 30+years and was always looking
for that perfect balance of size and power.

The P11 has been pretty much my daily carry gun for the
past dozen years or so. I've recently become disabled and
wanted a smaller 9mm than the P11. So, yesterday I picked
up an R9s that had been on order for about a month.

I have a problem though, hanging onto a small powerful
pistol with only a few fingers because of severe arthritis in
my hands. Thankfully, Yankee2500 may have the solution.
He sells wonderful Magazine Extensions. I'm sure all of you
are familiar with them. He sells two different versions. One
with a hook and one straight. I wanted to buy one of each
version to see which one works the best for me. Problem is
he only has the hooked version.

So, I bought two of the hooked models in order to experiment
with one using a small bench grinder. I hope you enjoy the photos
their kind of self explanatory.










I think it just may work.

Thank you for your warm welcome Richard S.
You know I was some what concerned about
the trigger action of the P9 models. I've had
a few guns over the years that were impossible
to shoot properly because of their triggers.
I must say the DAO trigger on my PUP is
delightful. It doesn't mean I'll be able to hit
the side of a barn but it won't be the PUPs
fault if I can't.

BTW, I have a cousin who was a Full Bird Colonel
in the Corps before he retired. I'm among good
company here! Thank you!

Nice job on the modification and welcome to the forum!!  I am waiting for my mag. extensions to come in for my new R380.  They are definitely worth it and seem to fill in the much needed space for this ultra compact gun.

I have both and use the straight in the pistol, the one with the curved in the mag pouch as it is easier to grasp for a reload, which takes practice but can be done reasonably quickly.

Oh yeah, I went from carrying a P 11 for about 8-10 yrs to an R9. 

Smooth transition.  No prob.

dmunofo, thanks for the complement, I agree about the magazine
extensions, they are worth it. bachupr, thats a great idea, the curved
version would be easier to retrieve from a pocket etc. Reinz, what do
I do with a well used P11? Its unlikely I'll use it again. It looks like its
been carried everyday for a dozen years because it has been. I used
to have a rather larger collection of firearms but for the past few years
(after Hurricane Katrina) I've been downsizing. I guess it'll go in the
safe with all of the rest.

Well billib you can always go Texas Gunfighter style like I do sometimes - one in each pocket.

Welcome Bill.  I'm new to forum too, and the mag extensions look great.  Definitely not just for hands with grip challenges.  I may order one too!

Wildcat1, who would buy a 10+ year old
P11 that looked it. I'll put it in my tackle
box for a fishing gun, if you know what
I mean.

Reinz, I routinely carried the P11 in my
waist band and a two shot 38 Special
Derringer in my pocket. I was a lot of
fun at parties.

I think I'll retire the P11 and the Derringer.

Those photographs provide a good size comparison for the three guns. Thanks for posting them.

The photograph of that Derringer was a blast from the past for me. I owned one of those little pocket blasters back in the '80s. Its absence of a trigger guard always made me feel a little concerned for the "family jewels" when I was carrying it. I finally let it go to an LEO acquaintance who wanted it for undercover work. (There weren't as many choices of pocket pistols in the '80s as we have today.)
