A letter to the editor worth reading
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:54:34 AM »
This was a letter to the editor of the Fernandina (FL) Newsleader this week titled "HOW COULD THEY?":

The shocking, two-year old photo shows American servicemen holding body parts of a suicide bomber.  We sheltered folks shudder at the apparent ease displayed by the participants.
     How could they?
Let's set aside our reaction for a moment and really think about the question "How could they?"
As a start, could it be that these very special individuals who volunteer to risk their lives for we the people are exceptional folks?  Yes.
Could it be that they are seasoned in the field of battle where they've witnessed unspeakable (unfit for 6 o'clock news) atrocities committed on both fellow service people as well as the civilian population?  Yes.
And could it possible be that the experience of collecting your fellow comrade-in-arms' body parts along the roadside after an explosion of a road-side bomb has somewhat desensitized their souls.  You bet!
Yes, be shocked, Americans.  Let this small part of reality sink into your minds, then be grateful to the men and women who stand in the breach.  God bless them.

I agree with this letter 100% being a serviceman currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. Many people at home dont get what some of us see and deal with daily. I am glad people back home are standing up for us volunteers our doing our job, I am not saying everybody is right in what they do all the time, things happen, but the other 99.9999999% try to do the right thing all the time.

D.  Welcome to the Forum and very good words.  Definitely want to thankyou for your service to our country.  Again, welcome and stay safe.

And welcome also from Tennessee.  There are many old soldiers on the forum who thank you for your service and view with pride your commitment to your country and it's sometimes ungrateful citizens.  Pity those citizens don't understand that their diverse opinions are protected by the very service that they persist in disparaging.  Stay safe.

Thank you for your kind words all, I have been lurking for a while just don't post. I can't wait to get home later this year so that I can get a new rohrbaugh. I have already contacted Tom and just need to find an FFL in Az so that it will be there when I get home and can break it in when on R&R. Now back on topic......
