1911 bug bites.....
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:37:45 PM »
Picked up this new to me Les Baer Premier II today.  It's my first 1911 and comes with both .45/.400 Cor-bon barrel combo as well as the orginal paperwork and packaging.  Owner reports 200 round count and it looks it.  Eventually I plan to run this in USPSA SS/L10 divisions.  Right now I am having too much fun shooting production with my P226 - but the LB was priced right and too pretty to pass up.

The specs say 4#, but I have not put a scale on it as of yet.

Hard to beat a Baer...tightest tolerances of all of them I'm told.  Congratulations...whatever else you own, there is simply nothing better than shooting a full sized 1911.

Backup9,

Very nice L/B indeed. There is nothing like a custom 1911! I have one OLD Kimber that was custom made for FBI trails that were cancelled and another brand on order. I can't wait for my new one because it is light years ahead of the Kimber.

wow, that's one heck of a 1911, especially as your first!

I have a Kimber CDPII Ultra that is a fine pistol.  Also have an Ed Brown Special Forces that is simply incredible.  I bought my oldest boy a Wilson Combat 5" CQB for his 40th birthday next month...(he's a federal agent with a family and would never be able to afford one) and it, too, is a wonderful shooter.  Surprisingly, in a good holster they are not really uncomfortable to carry.  These are probably the most fun to shoot of all my pistols.

Way to go for your first 1911, Congrats.

My first gun when I got my NY carry permit in the early 80s was a Colt Gold Cup NM, I took it to a local smith that only worked on 1911s.
I had some custom work done and also had it Hard Chromed. It has the best trigger of any gun I have ever shot. Can't wait to see how the new Commander will stack up against it.

John.  How's the new Commander coming along?  Hey!  Need some more photos!    :)

I shipped it to the smith doing the build and he received it on 3/2 and he was going to send it to Neil Keller of Kustom Ballistics to have the machining done. I have no new info. I know he said Neal's turnaround time was 2- 3 weeks.
I will contact him in another week or so if I don't hear from him before.
