Minor One-Time Glitch

I'm more curious than concerned ... but I ran into an odd glitch ONCE during a range visit yesterday with my R9.

The trigger didn't reset after my third shot and I think slide did not return fully to battery. (I discovered the problem when I tried to take the fourth shot.) A quick jiggle of the slide resolved the matter.

I fired four more magazines without a hiccough.

For the record:

    The recoil spring was brand new.

    Ammo was Gold Dot 115.

    The gun was cleaned/oil when I replaced the spring (after the last outing).

Thoughts?

Yep ... I when I replaced the grips a hundred rounds ago, I used the appropriate locktite.

Check the right side grip screws anyway.  My factory screws would loosen up after a range trip even with a drop of loctite placed after the previous range trip.  Some have noticed loose screws after 50 rounds.

Aftermarket. But I've had no problems previously -- or after the one glitch. My initial thought was that something prevented the slide from going into full battery.

Could be that some dreck from the three rds fired got caught on the slide rails and the jiggle of the slide got rid of the dreck;  highly unusual for that to happen since the gun was clean and all was well after.  Just some thoughts.

You know ... that's kind of what it "felt" like. I'll pay close attention if it happens again.

Give it a good cleaning and take it back to the range for another round! ;D

 Just a quick question. You mentioned the gun was cleaned and lubricated after your last range session. How much time had gone by? Had the pistol been carried a lot during that time.
 My first suspect seems to be lack of lubrication for the failure to go into battery.

There have been three recent (past year) episodes on this forum of failure to return to battery.  One was mine.  Two of these (at least) were due to the firing pin retainer being out of spec, and rotating to the side which slowed the slide (failure to feed) or trapped the slide with locking out of battery.  Mine was one of those and was returned to the factory where Karl replaced the part.  Should careful cleaning not prevent a repeat of the problem, consider this possibility.  For pictures of the problem, look on page two of "New R9 Problem" posted by Borgers under range reports.  John

It had been a upwards of six weeks since the last range session. And yes the R9 had been carried a lot. Before I take the R9 back to the range, I'll lubricate it carefully.

Ron,

 Six weeks of carry should cause a problem. Six months of EDC may be. I have done six months with my Robar, but I think that is the main advantage of a Robar. There is less lubrication needed and therefor less collection of pocket dirt and lint.

 I hope it does not turn out to be another issue like Backup9 had!
