Finally got my first Rohrbaugh R-9 - hollow points or no?

I've been a long time lurker here ( 2+ years) and I finally bought my first Rohrbaugh R-9... It's going to replace my Kel-tec P3AT as my everyday backup carry piece...Should be going out to the range in the next few days to fire a couple of mags through it and then into it's holster it goes till the day that it hopefully is never needed...

Have a question though....on the mags it says not to use hollow points but I have seen people talk about using them....I know "no +p" but I am unsure on the hollowpoints....

No hollow points is news to me. There is nothing in the owner's manual about no hollow points.

Welcome to the forum.

The magazine should read:
CAUTION STANDARD 9MM AMMO ONLY
DO NOT USE +P OR +P+ AMMO IN THIS FIREARM

I only use Speer 115 grain Gold Dots and have had good luck with them in all of the R9s i have owned. :)

Let us know if somthing has changed or take a picture of the magazine and post it.

I  just bought some new mags a few months ago....they say no +P or +P+...nothing about hollow points..check again

Congrats on getting the R9.  What Z and tracker said.  Karl Rohrbaugh  uses Winchester 115 grain Silvertips which are hollow points, and so do I, so I think it is a misprint or something.  Enjoy.

Welcome also from Tennessee!  Be advised that these pistols are ammo sensitive...almost all like Gold Dots.  Many like Silvertips.  Speer Lawman is much cheaper and work well for range work and plinking.  Mostly use the higher grade ammo and see what your R9 likes to "eat."  If you use it for carry, fire 13 from a box of ammo and if all work well, load the rest for carry (this due to the fact that all makes have variability in quality from box to box).

Also, disassemble, clean and lubricate before the first firing.

I think you are misreading something somewhere... Definitely use jacketed hollowpoint ammo.

 Glad to hear you pulled the pin and bought a R-9! Welcome to the forum as well. I like 147gr JHP for carry and W/W white box for practice. Enjoy your pup and let use know how you like it as well.

Sleep deprivation must have caused me to halucinate ( I drove 13 hrs round trip to buy the pistol  :) )...Yeah, I think I was assuming when it said 'standard ammo only' that they were saying ball or fmj only...Guy I bought it from (super super nice guy btw) gave me 3 extra holsters and about 120rds of the speer gold dot...so I was going to go shoot a couple of mags and then load it up if all went well....

WOW 13 hours @ 60 mph = 780 miles, 26 miles to the gallon = 30 gallons of gas at $3.60 a gallon = $108. :o You wanted to pick it up pretty bad. ;D  but I've probably done crazier things with less to show for it. ;D ;D

Congrats on the pup, looking forward to a range report.

Yeah, I bought it from a forum member here so I was warying about just sending that kind of money....plus it was within state so it saved me from having to transfer it through FFL, plus shipping, plus he threw in a bunch of goodies, it was my day off, and with it being a special forces model I figured it would be worth it...round trip was 870 miles...(good thing I didn't take my Hummer!)

Craziest part about the whole trip is what I found out today...I left around 5am early Sunday morning and the way I normally take had like a 70 car pile up and 10 people killed on the interstate because of fire and the smoke associated with it...I decided to take the other route that was 30 miles longer because I didnt want to pay the tolls lol...and then the way back I was so tired that I was going to take the route with tolls, but I missed the exit and just decided to go back the same way lol...

Not to be argumentative, but why 13 rounds? I've always put approximately 100-200 rounds of my carry ammo through a pistol prior to being satisfied.....am I missing something?
