Wanted:Houge Extreme Grips

If you purchased a set of the Hogue "Extreme Series Grips" and would like to sell them please let me know.

I called Hogue and asked them to make extreme grips for me. I asked for polished aluminum with wood inserts and they said no.

What do the extreme grips (presumably for R9) look like?

Ya know I just noticed these Hogue grips are made from G10, isn't that the same material the standard grips are made from?

So it sounds like these grips do not have the same rubber, "grippy" feel of Hogue's standard grips (like the J-frame Bantams)

Could someone please clarify?

Cannot clarify but can concur as to G10. I hate G10 and wish grips were available in Micarta. Factory claims they considered Micarta but nixed it. My guess it was a cost factor.

Micarta polishes to texture of amber while G10 stands in the corner and sucks out loud. While I concede G10's dielectric properties, for industrial application, it is caustic, (in my view), for so pretty a gun as the R9.

I will settle for aluminum to get rid of G10 but wish there were better choices available.

I see the Rohrbaugh on-line store still lists the Hogue G10 grips and several flavors of anodized aluminum grips for about 70 bucks.

My feelings about G10 are like most of you guys.  I don't like 'em.
But I've been feeling guilty about carrying my early serial # R9s with the carbon fiber grips.  Maybe the next time I order recoil springs, I'll pick up a set of those black aluminum grips.

It is good that you feel guilty as carbon fiber is fabulous material and is really missed. With the Stealth I would like lighter contrasting grips in something like maroon micarta. On a SS gun, CF was incomparable.

The G10 Hogue grips are not rubbery. They are hard. The checkering is pretty aggressive tho.

ACP I may be totally off base but I was under the impression that Micarta is a G10.  I copied this from a post here on the forum from a grip manufactor

"There are diffent trade names for most of the materials. But I call them all composites because of the way they are made. They all are a composite of 2 or 3 materials. some use carbon, some use glass, some use cotton, or linen, or even paper.
The "G10" I have in the black and tan is a cotton based composite.
the white one is still a "G10" but is a paper or Phinolic based composite called Micarta. "

Correct. All Micarta is G10 but not all G10 is Micarta. This is man made material but outcome is different for which the  (catalyst) determines texture and ergonomic properties.

In nature, the number of electrons determine key aspects of an element, (commencing with hydrogen at the beginning of the Periodic Chart and advancing to uranium). Learn how to cook uranium and you get plutonium, which is exponentially more toxic.

This is simplified but a reasonable metaphor for the differences between Micarta and G10. Give us back carbon fiber and all of this would go away.
