New R9 Model for 2011

Edsels are quite valuable now. A lot of folks passed on them, too.

I would pass on the Edsel now.   All those classic cars are nice to look at and Reminisce about the old days but the cheapest most basic car today rides and drives ten times better than they did.
  I had more than my share of cars that would be quite valuable today. 64 Corvair Monza Spyder, 57 Chevy Bel air , 67 SS 396 Impala, 68 SS 350 Camaro, 70 Chevelle Convertible,  70 340 Dodge Dart Swinger, 70 340 Cuda Convertible.
 They were all nice at the time and provide some great memories now but I don't regret not keeping any of them.
And I'll still pass on the Brown R9 and probably not live to regret it.

I like the way the Rohrbaughs do things in regards to product releases.

Ruger hyped their 1911, even sent reps around to big gun stores to do demos, and then for the longest time no one could actually get one.

Kel-Tec introduced their KSG at SHOT show 2011, and they said it would be out in the fall of 2011.  Fall has come and gone and there is no sign of the KSGs.  I guess we get to see them again at SHOT show 2012..

Taurus put their CT G2 Carbines in their 2011 catalog and I don't think anyone has seen one at a gun strore yet...

I know delays happen, I've been part of big projects that have run into unexpected delays.  But you do control your own press releases and what dates you put out to the public and it doesn't make sense to start the marketing and then not be able to deliver.

As a writer, all of this is frustrating to me too.

Kel-Tec's KSG is an example.  I don' t think it was ready to go last year.  But, KT also has a problem with their supply chain.  You still can't get PMR-30s with any regularity either...or some of their carbines.  They make good stuff -- I hope they take a year off and just try to catch up on what they have in the works.

Taurus may be the worst.  You hear about things often a year before they are available.  And sometimes, they never become available and just fade out of existance...like vaporware.

Ruger, on the other hand -- is pretty good.  When they show something at SHOT, they are usually filling supply channels immediately thereafter.

It's all part of your corporate culture, I guess.  Sometimes making a big splash with a new product bites you if you can't then deliver.  Especially when you show detailed high-res photos of something with all the specs...  It creates expectations that the gun is ready to go.

Ruger probably learned their lesson.  I remember back in the 80's they announced their centerfire auto-loading pistol line and it took ywo years for those to hit the market.  Pretty uneventful when they did in my opinion.

I just found out about the coyote R9 via an email from a forum member. I have mixed feelings about the new R9. There are people on this forum whose opinions I respect who have shown favor and disfavor toward the new gun. I think collectibility is certainly germane for the tan R9 but I mourn the fact that this energy could have gone toward the R45;(presuming that is so. Not sure).

Also, I think there is good dialog regarding the timing of info release on this string. It really upsets me when I see a gun I like and find out that it is not available or is allocated.

I think that a product shouldn't be announced until its ready to be put on the shelves of retailers in sufficient quantities, over hyping and not being able to deliver can actually backfire and cost the company sales.

I think Ruger learned their lesson in the early eighties when they were introducing the model 1982, or something like that, it took a couple or few years before it actually hit the market.

Is Cerakote a better finish than Poly-T2 or NP3+   

I always thought Poly-T2 did better in the corrosion test



Is the "robar" version coated with NP-3 or NP-3 plus?  Lots of people here sending their stock R9's to be coated with NP-3.  Is that aftermarket NP-3 plus?

If the Coyote is indeed the "new model," I'm a bit disappointed.  Thought there was really something innovative coming out...a real change, not just a new finish.  We'll see I supposed.

Anyway, I got a call from Karl saying that the color shown on the Coyote R-9 on the Rohrbaugh website is all wrong.  Its not an accurate reprsentation of the color.  I should have better pics soon!
