Well I decided that I wanted a gun a little smaller then my HK P2000SK, and after lots of reading and going back and forth between Rohrbaugh R9S and the Kahr PM9, I decided that the Rohrbaugh was the right gun.
The size craftsmanship and pride of ownership sold me. I tried to haggle at the gun shop but they were quite firm, so all said and done it was $1351 after the 8.125% tax, damn Texas!
Brought the little gun home, broke it down, cleaned and lubed it up with some Hoppes Elite. I went through my ammo and the only non +p 9mm ammo I had was Speer Lawman 115 and 124 grain.
I know that the Gold Dots and the Winchester are the preferred ammo, but until I get an order put together with Natchez these will have to do.
Packed up the range bag, with a box of 115's and a box of 124's. Fingers crossed that I don't get jams...... Also grabbed my new 7mm Rem Mag, and all the cleaning material to start the pain in the ass job of breaking in the barrel with it.
Well I got to the range and all of the talk of jams, heavy kick, inconstancy, and wear crept into my head as I ran the target out to 4 yards. Loaded up a mag with 115's, pulled back the slide and pointed the gun, tiny little grip, but still felt great in my hand, squeezed off the first round and immediately the ideas of crazy kick went away! This gun was fun! The sights fell right onto target and it was very easy to just point and shoot!
I easily shot all 6 in a 4" circle and then loaded up the 124's and did it again. I shot 4 mags at 4 yards and then went to 7. I had the exact same experience at 7 yards, I played with shooting both hands, strong hand and weak hand and the gun worked flawlessly and kept everything in nice and tight.
I had 20 more rounds so I took the target out to 10 yards, really all the further I think I would ever need this gun since it is a backup. I started to notice that the slide was getting a little gritty, but nothing bad, just not silky smooth. At this point I am in love with the little gun.
I fired the rest of the 20 rounds and all but 2 of them stayed in the head of the target at 10 yards. I knew that 100 rounds was plenty for this little gun, but it shot them all perfectly and I couldn't ask for more!
Cleaning it tonight I did notice that the frame finish was worn through and shiny in a couple of spots and the grittiness I felt in the slide was tiny little aluminum shavings, from the much softer frame wearing/clearancing against the stainless slide. I am a little torn between the oil/grease ideas, I think a light grease would provide more protection against wear, but would also attract more dust, lint, dirt etc. What are the majority of you guys that have a lot of rounds on your little guns been using?
Oh and lastly after 100 rounds I did compare the recoil spring and it is noticeably shorter, so I guess I will get a few of them ordered.
