This seems to be the week...
« on: July 30, 2010, 10:04:59 AM »
... for new pups & new members! :D
My R9s came in yesterday from wired/Scott.  And, thanks to him for a smooth transaction.

I have not had it out to the range to shoot yet, but that will happen this weekend with appropriate post afterwards -- I'm not expecting any surprises or "drama" given the gun's reputation and responses here; plus, wired was KIND enough to break it in with the first 250 rounds for me  ;D

So far, the only semi-issue I am having is getting used to the heel release on the mag - 30+ years of 1911s and Berettas are hard to overcome, not to mention the little polished release is stiff & tough to move even if I DO eventually 'find' it... :-[  After some further practice and getting used to it, that might be a candidate for some checkering!!

Thanks to all for the previous welcomes in the Classifieds and looking forward to the pup and the Forum.

SandMan,
Congrats on the pup, I'm sure you will enjoy it and the mag latch will get easier with time.

Welcome and congratulations on your new pup. I put a very small piece of 3M tape on the working edge of the mag release; it helps a lot to avoid slippage.

Sandman, welcome to the greatist show on Earth. Also known as the best forum, with the best people and the best pocket pistol anywhere. Don't know if this will help, but if you push upwards on the magazine very slightly when removing it, then the heel release moves quite easily. I have one R9s that is very hard to release when empty and almost impossible when the mag is loaded. Pushing up on the mag cured this problem for me.   Gene

Thank-you -- thank-you :D  .... appreciate the welcome and suggestions.  I will defintely give the 'push' a try.

Part of this is just pure psycological on my part...  back in tha' day, before USPSA had Production or Limited 10 Divisions, I shot [regular] Limited with an Officer-size 1911 - I was a half-a__ shot, but MAN could I change mags!!! :o  comparatively, with this I feel like I'm pulling up a chair, sitting down and reloading!! - but I'll get it eventually ... ;)

Now, if I could only FIND some Gold Dots locally I'll be ready for the range!

Maybe it was too long ago to remember but I didn't have an issue releasing the magazine. I think it is like everything else with this gun, it becomes easier with use.

kj,
I always have something to do, but don't always do it.  ;D
I just looked at a ceramic tile job a woman in Greensboro wants me to do, but I hate driving back and forth to there, it's a two hour round trip.
I'll be in your area on Monday, I have an appointment at the VA (Regular checkup). I usually like to go to China Grove when I get in that area, there are a couple of pawn shops I like to rummage through. Never know a Farmie may turn up one day. ;D
