Long term Wear/Tear from back pocket Carry
« on: January 21, 2010, 01:17:55 PM »
I was wondering if I could get some insight on how daily back pocket carry could affect my r9 over a period of years. It rides in a Meco holster, so it is safe, but recently I have been courious of the long term damage that sitting on it for 8+ hours a day could have on my favorite gun.

Thanks!!

I have a back pocket holster from Meco as well, but I carry it in my right front pocket.  I like the back panel, as I got used to that while carrying my Seecamp.

Carrying it in the front pocket is more comfortable, it would seem to me.  Never carried it in the back pocket.  It should save some wear.

They really are great holsters! I dont have any problem as far as comfort, it just feels like a wallet to me. Thanks for the quick response!

There should be no effect to the gun sitting on it for 8+ hours a day, as long as it is comfortable for you I wouldn't worry about it.

It's really to each his own.  If it's comfortable for you, I'll agree with John, don't worry about it.  I just don't want to take the chance of wear.  Then again, I never have carried in the back pocket.

spursguy10:

First of all, welcome to the Forum.

Second, there should be no damage to your R9 from back-pocket carry as long as it is protected by a holster with a full counterprint panel.  The pistol is tougher than your . . . backside.  ;)

My Rohrbaugh hasn't arrived yet, but I've been carrying a Crimson Trace-equipped LCP for quite a while in both Leather and Kydex pocket holsters, with no effect whatsoever.

I've been intentionally sitting on it just to see if the laser ever gets knocked out of alignment.  So far, just as accurate as the day I installed it.

Recluse.  That's good to know.  I have a back pocket holster and use it in the front pocket as it is comfortable there.  I had thoughts of some wear if I carried it in the back pocket.  Now it seems no wear would happen.  Thanks.

Mine gets a lot of pressure in the holster when I sit.  See no effect.  I would not worry about back pocket, but don't care to carry that way.  Don't see how a nice soft butt would hurt it...  Front cargo pocket works for me also, using a Nemesis.
