Do Rohrbaugh's Really Exist?
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:54:38 PM »
Okay, it's a facetious thread title, but as far as I can tell Rohrbaugh's exist only on the internet.

I first stumbled across them while surfing about a year ago and, being interested, I started watching out for one to hold and handle.  Gun shops in multiple cities - no luck.  Gun shows - never on a table.  My local gun club - most haven't heard of it.  Pistol competitions - not one owner.

I went to the Rohrbaugh website and used their dealer search function - the nearest one is about 300 miles away.

I could probably save my shekels and buy one, but I've never bought a gun without at least being able to hold it first. In the meantime, I bought an LCP for a pocket pistol.

Rohrbaugh's - Fact or Fiction?  Inquiring minds want to know....

It is a FACT that they do exist.  I have had 11 of them and currently have several.  It is also a fact they are not many to be seen in the majority of gun shops (as you have found out) and gun shows.  I have only seen one at a gun show out of at least a 100 shows I have gone to.  The first time I laid MY hands on one was AFTER I had shelled out the cash for it and waited for it to ship.  Many have had that same first Rohrbaugh experience.

Welcome to the forum!  Buy yourself a R9 and don't look back.  They are great guns for what they are.  Feed them well and they will inturn serve you well.

Corey

Definitely FACT.  I bought mine in March, this year, having never seen one and my FFL had never heard of it either.  I did read alot on this forum, and decided I wanted one.  Never regretted it one bit and never a malfunction.

Read about it here, then contact Tom of the Irish Guard, here on the Forum.  He'll be glad to help you get the work of art, the Rohrbaugh R9; and welcome to the Forum.

Right next to me on the bed table.  It is real.  Bought it from impressions gained from this forum.  Damned glad.  Love it.  I carry it every day in a pocket or a high ride holster.  Wear it around the house.  Never any issue when using GD ammo.  (Can't find Silvertip.)  About a year now, and I like it more every week.

Highly recommended.  And the resale value is pretty high, so it is a minimal risk to get and resell.  But you won't.

My bank account says they're quite real (ouch), since I just bought one yesterday -- two-tone, serial #4039. Haven't even fired it yet. I am completely impressed by the quality of workmanship and the design philosophy, not to mention the terrific trigger pull. All in all, a first-rate piece of engineering and design.

whkrog.  Welcome to the Forum.  Congratulations on getting the R9.  You'll be glad you did, I'm sure.  Feed it only the recommended ammo here on the Forum and you'll be a happy camper.

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, the R9 is real. Here is one which I have carried since May 2004:

If you get in touch with Tom Watson ("theirishguard"), whose rotating banner can be found above, he can arrange for you to acquire the R9 of your choice for collection at the shop of your nearest FFL.

Just checked my back pocket, Rohrbaugh's exists unless this is bad dream and im going to wake up soon. I spent a lot of time and research (see my previous posts) and could not be more happier with R9s purchase from Tom Watson. For the last month is has been my carry gun 95% of the time and expect it will be indefinitely.  Take the Rohrbaugh plunge....

It must depend where you are in the country...

My local gunshow has them everytime.  My local gun shop has one (or maybe two) in the case right now.

There are a number of them on gunbroker.com right now.

And -- the Irish Guard always seems to have a bunch!

Yes Virginia, there is a Rohrbaugh!

It seemed unlikely five years ago that we would be looking at no. 4000 and change. That speaks well for the product with almost a cult following  that is most certainly at the enthusiast level.

Message to thew guy who can't find an R9 locally: Proximity doesn't matter. Order one from Tom Watson and have him send it to your local FFL

Tom has become a friend and I have bought guns from him despite the fact that he is in Texas and I am in Vermot.

There is no finer man in this forum, in my view, and Tom will take care of your R9 needs with requisite passion and desire to satisfy his customer's needs.

With all the recommendations that theirishguard receives I would have no problem ordering one from him; but I am hesitant to spend $1K+ on a pistol that I haven't at least handled and fondled.

I'll just keep on keeping my eyes out for one; in the meantime my P7 for main carry and LCP for pocket carry will have to do.
