Just got my first Rohrbaugh today
« on: November 13, 2009, 04:54:15 PM »
I just picked up my new R9s and I am sure impressed with the finish of the weapon!  I decided to weigh it and was surprised that it weighed in at 13.5 oz without the magazine.  The website states that the R9, not R9s, weighs 12.8 oz without magazine.  I assume this is normal?  I understand that it is only.7 oz, but I am just curious.  I can't wait to shoot this fine work of art!!!

crffish.  Welcome to the Forum.  Congratulations on getting the R9s.  You're absoluting right on the definition of the Rohrbaugh.  As to the weight, I've never weighed mine, so will have to defer to others.

Congrats on the new pup, and I will weigh my pup in the next day or so and report back.

Interesting.  It appears the Carbon fiber grips weigh a little less than the stock plastic or g10 material.  I still can't believe it only weighs 13 oz because it just doesn't feel that light when in the hand.  I guess that's what you get when you pay for a premium firearm.  I just hope it shoots as well as it fits in my hand.  Thank you for weighing your firearm!

I agree, the perceived weight is greater than the actual.  I suspect it is the solid construction.  Possibly also swayed by our experience with polymer pistols, as I shot Glocks for a looong time before shooting the R9.

I also think the older R9s had less "meat" in the slide. Someone here may know more about that. If I remember correctly, they made the slide "thicker" in some areas and beefed up the extractor on later models hence more weight.

I agree with your observations, P7. The changes are slight but perceptible.

I will get mine out and weigh it in a few....it has the Blue CFs and is pre "R" serialed so it doesn't have the "beef up mods". I am curious as to this weight thing as well.

It is nice to see all the replies and interest in this thread.  I had no idea that they mad some deign changes and beefed up the weapon.  I am interested to hear if the original matches the advertised weight.   ???

The published weight has always been 12.8 oz. and it doesn't seem that the slight upgrades would add much to it.

OK...the tale of the tape....a Rohrbaugh R9s weighs in at 12.7 ounces with the mag coming in at 1.5 empty. Specimen weighed was #143, one of the first 50 made.

Maybe Corey has one that is lighter, being he drills holes in his! ;D
