Stealth Grips Gone Missing
« on: August 05, 2009, 04:40:19 PM »
I just got the R9s Stealth on Monday.  Love the thing, but looking at the Rohrbaugh website, the pictures show the pup with CF grips.  The pup I have, which is new, has the Stealth Elite grips.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

UPDATE - The pictures shown in the brochure show my grips on the Stealth.  Did they stop producing the CF grips?

The Rohrbaugh website product pictures are deceptive.
They haven't put CF grips on R9's for quite a while.
There's no reason to continue showing the R9's with the Carbon Fiber grips.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess that's why I see grips going for 300+ now.  I'll put my money into ammo.  Thanks again.

Welcome to the shooting range and Congrats on your new gun, I have the same and really enjoy this gun.  I personally like the G10 extreme grips by hogue for practical use.  Rohrbaugh should really change those pictures of the Stealth with CF grips, misleading and can be taken very negatively.

No one has been more vocal than me as to approbation of Carbon Fiber and dislike of G10 grips.

Two things: First, factory should take the picture of CF grip Stealth off their website. I am not their spokesman but there is no way they are not aware that CF grips are coveted and G10 is either openly disliked, (by those like myself), or generally regarded as lesser value than CF.

Second, I concur with FB as to Hogue grips. If you have to be G10, you might as well look decent. Given the cost of the R9, I think Hogue grips should be stock.

I agree, though I am wondering about the grip differences with the Hogue.  Are you all happy with them (of course not compared to CF grips).  Finally getting the pup to the range tomorrow.  Waiting on Gold Dots to get here on Monday so for now, will have to try Cor Bon.  We will see.

I do not have an R9 with the Hogue grips. I am only offering an opinion. To me, without ever having had an R9 with Hogue grips in my hand, the machining of the G10 grips by Hogue is much better than stock grips.

At present, I have 2 R9s (CF two tone and a Stealth with aluminum grips). I am selling the Stealth and have just purchased a Robar R9, with CF grips, that I have not yet received.

I send people to the R web site and really wish they would change the CF pix.  Small effort to avoid annoying confusion.

Had the G10, didn't particularly like them.  Lucked into some CF.  Love them.  Hard to describe the tactile difference.  Rohrbaugh needs to return to CF.  If it cost another $50, who would care?  And they could make them available for retrofit.  Strange they do not have them, as CF is hardly unobtanium.

slashspot:
Carbon Fiber has a high demand due to military application and automotive industry because of its desirable properties; lightweight and stronger than steel.

However, given present state of automotive industry, demand may have lowered but I do not presume to know the market well enough to advise what cost of CF grips would be today.

Consider the fact that your willingness to spend an extra $50 for CF grips is naive. At present, CF grips for the R9 will sell for $200 - $300 alone.

The only pressure I see that may force the factory to change their grips from G10 is competition. The Boberg is on the horizon with start up issues. However, Sig has the P238 and Ruger has the LCP; both at half the cost of an R9, (in .380).

Where I stand is simple: I am a Rohrbaugh partisan despite my open hatred of G10 grips.

I'm an engineer in the aerospace industry.
CF is used throughout the fuselages on some of the Biz Jet models I work with.
Trust me, there is no shortage of Carbon Fiber.
The scrap is sold to dealers. The dealers sell on-line

A while back I contacted Rohrbaugh and told then I had a good source of CF and to get back with me if they were interested.

That was months ago. I never heard back from them.

Curt

Excellent info. I worked on cockpit avionics for the B2 and F117 but we were subcontracted; I never had the benefit of working DX.

Factory, as I understand it, has steadfastly maintained that CF is a cost issue. Given your knowledge and attempt to contact the factory, I find this very disappointing.

Ouch! Without wishing to offend, Bersa is not a high quality gun. However, look at the irony. You are getting CF grips, (@ $43.00) for an inexpensive gun while the R9, (not a cheap gun), has dispensed with CF grips due to cost(!!??)

The brand of gun wasn't the point.
The irony is the point.
You can buy CF grips for $43 for a $280 gun.

The CF grips I posted were after-market grips by the way.
He also sells CF grips for higher end guns too.
Carbon Fiber for your CZ....$30.

The point is to show just how readily available CF is.

We are not far apart on this issue. "Bersa" has less to do with what I said than the portaryal of CF rarity and cost by the Rohrbaugh factory. Ergo, {!!??} at the end of my statement.

Rohrbaugh has to know that we don't like G10 as much as CF. Further, CF grips are still portrayed on their website; something which implies tacit endorsement. If CF is as available and inexpensive as you state, Rohrbaugh has some explaining to do.
