Question:
I have been reading the forum for the best amo to get her,
but what about range rounds? Pardon me if it's already
been answered and I missed it.

It's good to hear that you are now on the mend. Slow and easy does it -- recovery from surgery always takes a little time.

As for range ammo, Winchester "White Box" FMJ is pretty well regarded around here for that purpose. However, be sure to practice enough to gain familiarity with the round you select for defensive carry.

The only qualm I have is the strength it takes me to rack her.
My delicate lady hands have adjusted to most pieces in the home but this one will take some practice.  Other than that, she's a dream come true

Picked up a box of Federal 115's for the range. Got em before I saw your post. :-/  They OK?

The Federal 115s should be just fine.

As for your difficulty in racking the slide of your R9, a little trick you might consider would be to use one of those multi-purpose non-slip jar/bottle opener gripper pads which can be found in most large grocery stores.  You can also find them on eBay. I keep one or two in my gun cleaning kit to help rack the slides of my larger semi-autos when my hands get covered with Ballistol (which I use for cleaning and lubricating all my firearms).

Some of my guns I can rack with forefinger and thumb.  For the tougher ones I'll use all 4 fingers of my non-shooting hand to grip it, and that will do it.  Though on the R9 you might end up with the last finger or two getting in the way of the ejector.

Picked up some zero friction today for a little help
with racking. Store recommended so I hope it's OK.

Taking her in tomorrow morning!  Range hand said he'd sneak me in before they open as they are usually three deep with classes on Saturday's.  Cannot wait! Will give a report.

Turns out I didn't need it for racking. Got it down.

Now for my range report. Sad to say she jammed on the first mag/bullet.
Thanks to hubby and his now sore thumb for
getting it unstuck. I thought it was me so I had him rack after
the clear.  It happened to him. To make a long story short, it was a hiccup in the mag.
This mag will be a range only from now on. Oh, case you all were wondering, I was using Federal at that point.

The second mag gave no problems with same amo-Federal 115.

Shooting her? AHHHHH! True Love! She is awesome. Hubby is jealous and wants one now!

Second set of bullets I tried were the Honady's.  Nice  and clean in both mags.

Third I tried Winchester 115 in both mags. Good range rounds.

It's funny, we all try different amo for her. But all our R-9's
are a bit finicky eaters and like certain kinds of food. Mine
just happens to like Hornady. (gosh I hope I spelled that right).

She shot clean, tight and accurate.  I was expecting a bigger kick than
she gave, but my S&W 642 (J-frame) kicks me harder.
Nice sites on mine, true they don't snag on clothes.  R9 was a BREEZE.

I am more than happy with her and cannot wait to shoot her again.
Tomorrow I'll sit down and give her a nice bath so I
can get to know how she takes down.
