R9S Question

I have a new R9S, after cleaning it I was re-assembling the gun and was having a little difficulty with the slide moving over the barrel, after a couple of times of fooling with it everything came together, but i noticed some marks on the inside of the slide where the parts had banged together, is this normal or is the metal just so soft,I know this will not hamper any function of the gun, but I am curious,, also I have a set of Blue Carbon fiber grips that were factory seconds because the blue ended with striping across the grips ( my friend had a couple of pairs like this) I would like to turn them into black any idea what I could use??? The way you describe internal parts has been addressed on other strings and seems normal owing to tight tolerances on gun. As to blue CF grips, I would not mess with them. They are valuable and I would not want a magic marker, or any other medium, to interfere.

I respect your choice of black as I have them on an early R9 but I would not try to "convert" blue grips to black. I will defer to dissenting opinion but that is where I stand

This is the second Rohrbaugh I have owned , I had one of the very early ones when they first came out and did not like it, this one seems to be very much improved,, The Blue Carbon Fibers, I have are factory seconds blue with deeper blue lines which look kind of funky but for what I got them for I cannot complain, I will just wait to find a pair of Black Ones that are for sale.

I understand but your blue factory seconds are exponentially better than new factory G10 grips.

CF grips are covetted, period, but you may just find a black pair someday. They will not be cheap.

I took the Blue Funky Grips and had them sprayed with a clear black tinted coating, they came out ok with a little sheen on the grips, I then washed them in an ultrasomic tank to see if the dye would come off, but they did not.. Now I am not sure if I like them the way they are or should just put them up for sale???

While I agree you should have kept them the way they were, there's probably somebody out there that would buy them; still CF.

I put them back on the gun last night and they are fine now... Black Carbon Fiber is what they look like but I know they were blue underneath...as you say they still are CF and they do look better then the G10's.

Bubble gum wrappers look better than G10. Glad story has happy ending. However, I would be concerned that painted grips, over time, might morph back to original color.

When you clean your R9, after shooting, be careful of the chemicals that may inadvertantly come into contact with the grips.

I cleaned the grips yesterday with Hoppes gun scrubber and then washed in a ultrasonic and the dye not paint never came off, it is a clear black dye used for changing colors in plastic, the lines of the CF still show and just has a bit of a sheen to it. Dan
