newbie - just got and shot...
« on: April 27, 2009, 06:53:09 PM »
Hi People,

Just wanted to say, i finally broke down and picked up an r9s last week which i finally got to shoot today.

We have a 5 day wait period here, so during the wait i was checking out all i could about it...was a bit concerned, as many people have some agro with rounds.

Long story short, could not find a single gold dot or silver tip, so took a stab with Hornady Critical Defense, 115 Grain FTX...

Went bang like a champ 25 rounds straight...managed to order some Gold Dots, so will try them too when they finally arrive.

Felt like it pulls a bit to the right, but for the purpose i will carry it...it should do the trick.  Also was surprised at the pounding it gave my hand, but nothing to put me off at all.

Really sweet little piece...

I noticed you guys all post holsters and stuff.  I wanted to show you this thing i got...its really cool. Not nearly as nice as all your leather bits but functional and comfortable beyond anything i have tried...also works for my Glock 30...

Thats all - nice one !

musicman,
Welcome to the forum!

Glad to see you had a good first outing with your R9S.

Keep it clean, lubed, with fresh recoil spring, and you should have no problems.

I was also glad to see you fired a box of Hornady Critical Defense ammo without problems.  I've been trying to get my hands on some to try in my R9S.   No luck yet, but maybe it's finally in the pipeline.

musicman!  Welcome to the Forum.  Great report on the R9.  Glad to hear about the Hornady Critical Defense ammo.  I do have a box but haven't tried them.  I just use Winchester 115 gr. Silvertips with Gold Dots 115 gr. as backup.  I've been lucky enough to find the Silvertips on the Internet and sometimes get their last box.   :)    :)  However, it is getting much harder to find.

Welcome to the Forum, and thank you for the good range report. You've done well by yourself and now own what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol on the planet.   8)

Welcome to the forum. With warm weather approaching, thunderwear looks like it might be a good idea for concealed consideration.

All I could find recently was Hornady TAP 147 grain and it is too precious to shoot until I can find backup ammo. Like you, I long for the recommended Silver Tip but cannot find it in a two state search in northern New England.
