Pistol Weight
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:55:01 PM »
This is NOT a concern or an issue for me.  I am posting only out of curiosity.

My brand new Stealth (manufactured in November 2008 ) weighs, according to my electronic postage scale, 13.5 ounces without the magazine.

The "Technical Specifications" on the Rohrbaugh website and in the Operating Instructions that came with the pistol list the weight of the pistol sans mag at 12.8 ounces.

I was just wondering if, when the switch to a different alloy slide was made, that the new slide was seven tenths of an ounce heavier then the original.  Or, if the Stealth model would be .7 oz. heavier.  (I doubt the later)

Perhaps Rohrbaugh just has not gotten around to updating their website and Instruction booklet?

Anyway, no big deal for me. As stated above just curious.

Regards,  Quiet1

PS  BYW each of the magazines weigh 1.6 (not the stated 1.5) ounces.  Maybe my scale is off.   :)

If your scale was off by 0.1 for every 1.5 ounces, then that could account for about 0.8 ounces for the 12.5 oz gun.  Calibrate the scale to be sure, but I think you answered your own question.

Jack,

Ahhh, Duhh,  LOL at myself!  If no one else has an "overweight" pup I probably don't either.   :)

My postage scale was inexpensive and does not have a recalibration feature.  I'll assume from now own that for every 1.4 ounces that it will indicate .01 oz heavy.

Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me.

The idea that a scale has an increasing offset (0.1 oz for every 1.5 oz) is kind of hard to imagine.  A fixed offset makes sense, but if it zeros at turn-on then it shouldn't even have that.

My R9s stealth weighs 13.4 oz with no magazine.  Maybe the sights add that 0.6 oz  :D

Tangmu,

O.K.  Then I guess the original question in this thread is valid.

What makes the new Steath six or seven tenths of an ounce heaver?  The new alloy used in the slide?  The sights, as you suggest?  Maybe simply it's the plus of the plus or minus within spec?

Anyway, it's no biggie but inquiring minds want to know.    ;)

Thanks for the info.  BTW what does an empty magazine weigh on your scale?   :)

I'm a little miffed also.  My RS weighs 13.33 ounces unloaded and 17.5 ounces loaded.

The website says 12.8 unloaded and 14.3 loaded.

Mine is, then, .53 ounces over weight unloaded and 3.2 ounces over weight loaded.

That's 4 percent over weight unloaded and 22 percent over weight loaded.

Quite a bit, really...

I can inquire.  The original specs were probably with carbon fiber grips, and not the G-10 grips.

Loaded weight is not really relevant -- that all has to do with the weight of your carry ammo, which can vary considerably depending upon the round used.  I also don't know if "loaded" weight necessarily (upon industry custom) included a round in the pipe.

Mine weighs 12.75 oz. empty and 14.25 oz fully loaded with 6 Speer Gold Dots in the mag and 1 in the pipe. Mine have the CF grips and I weighed mine on an expensive digital scale used in refrigerant charging/recovery systems that need critical accurancy down to the 1/4 oz.
