Need the Forum's Blessings
« on: October 18, 2008, 06:25:15 PM »
I have been reading this forum and appreciate the information it shares with everyone.
I'm almost sure that I want an R9s for pocket carry.
Can the members please share a line or two why the R9s would be the best compared to Kahr PM9/MK9, Ruger LCP, or the upcoming Micro Desert Eagle?
Also, is it possible to find a member-dealer from the forum where I can order the pup?
I just need the group's blessings before I become one of the proud Rohrbaugh owners.
Thanks!
Cool

While i do not represent the "forum", I just received my pup.  Having owned many guns, i find this firearm to be a premium piece of engineering and very well-executed.  I appreciate fine equipment, and have paid over $600 for a knife, so the price of the pup was not unrealistic.

I carry it every day on my person, as opposed to carrying a Glock 19 in my shoulder pouch only when out and about.  This is much better.  I will give this to my wife once broken in and she gets her renewed carry permit.

Highly recommended.  Fine piece of gear.  every round has loaded, fired and ejected so far.

I've carried both Kahr PM9 and PM40 as well as 3" compact Colt 45 as well as several other guns in search of the perfect carry gun. I've sold them all and can't think of anything I'd rather carry now than my R9. I pocket carry it daily with a quality pocket holster made by Jim at Hidden Holsters and one of his new IWB holsters and is one of the easiest guns I've ever had to daily carry and conceal easily on my thin frame. They aren't cheap but very well made and easily worth every penny spent. You won't want to spend all afternoon at the range with one putting 500 rounds down range, but that isn't what they were made to do either. I have a Wilson Combat and several Colt revolvers for my days at the range. I never leave home without my "pup".

Thank you for your replies!

Jetman, can you still remember how much recoil was in the Kahr PM9 vs the Rohrbaugh?  I just shot the Kahr MK9 (full stainless steel) yesterday and it was very pleasant.  Haven't shot the PM9 or Rohrbaugh.  I also have a Wison Combat CQB that I shoot almost every week.

Does anybody have more info on the Micro Desert Eagle?

Thanks again for everybody's advice!

Cool- I aint no expert but the R9 is a superlative firearm when I compare it side to side w/my friends Kahr 9mm.

Its got less recoil than my Seecamp 380, which is the caliber of the micro desert eagle if I'm not mistaken.

I bought my R9 sight unseen and don't regret it 8)

Cool:

Let me put it this way -- in my opinion, the Rohrbaugh R9 is to pocket pistols as the Ferrari 430 is to sports cars.  8)

There was no real difference between shooting the PM9 vs. the R9 recoil wise. The PM40 was noticeably snappier than either of the 2 9mm guns, in the same size package. The only real difference I can comment on the R9 vs. the PM9 was the difference in the mag release. The Kahr was marginally more comfortable to shoot due to the conventional mag release on the Kahr vs. the clip on the bottom of the R9. Obviously it wasn't a "deal-breaker" but I honestly prefer the mag release of the PM9 over the R9.... all that said I'd still sell the Kahrs and buy the R9 if I had it all to do over again.

The other difference between the R9 and MP9 is that the slide locks up on the last shot with the Kahr, but not with the R9.  Night sights are also available in the Kahrs.  But I am convinced that the Rohrbaugh is still the real "pup"!
I just e-mailed the Irishman.  Hopefully, I can get mine before election day.
Thank you all for your remarks and advice.

The R9 is the ideal pocket carry 9mm.

R9 has way less recoil than the Seecamp 380 IMO.

I think the answer to the recoil question is that the R9 is what you will be carrying when you need it.  The 6 rounds will be used in rapid succession, most likely, and at very short range.  Even with its snappy nature, the recoil will not prevent the pup from doing its job.  Comparisons are irrelevant, when the pup is functional and accurate enough for its stated purpose.

As is said in another thread, the R brothers say that it was designed to shoot a full mag, cool, clean, and continue carrying.  Carry lots, shoot little.

I carry it even around the house...  Frankly, i consider the Glock 22C as my backup.
