Hello, new guy here...
« on: June 28, 2008, 11:42:18 AM »
New to this forum.  Recently became interested in Rohrbaugh pistols.  Is anyone in the East Tennessee (Knoxville) area?

Been an IPSC and IDPA shooter for about 20 years, NRA Instructor for about 7 years.  Looking for the "ultimate" CCW gun.  Handled a few R9s, really looking for someone that would let me shoot one.

I've bought other guns sight unseen too.  Just thought there might be somebody in my area that would be kind enough to let me try one.

Glockbuster,
If you will be traveling through SW PA in the new future you can run a box through mine. I had to buy sight unseen and very glad I did, I know it is a lot of $ for sort of gamble, but I as the rest here can assure you that you will not be disappointed, Ask Tom at the Irish-guard.....

Thank you, X-Pilot1.  But I have no plans to be in PA.  Most of my travel is in the Southeast.
I have seen and handled a few R9s here and there.  I'd like to shoot one.

Welcome from another newbie :)

If you're ever in NY you can try mine. Lotsa folks offered to let me try theirs but I ended up buying one w/o handling it just by reading some of the great posts here by the long term posters who really know the ins and outs of the gun. 8)

Glockbuster:

Welcome to the Forum!

I'm probably that person Enigma mentions, hanging my hat as I do in Hamblen and Sevier Counties -- depending on the day of the week. The next time I'm going to be in Knoxville on a case, perhaps I can give you some advance notice and carve out some time to get to the range over there.  (However, your handle is enough to give some pause to one who considers his R9 to be an irreplaceable masterpiece of form and function . . . seeing as how it would indicate that you're known for "busting up" those indestructible Blocks Glocks.   ;) )

I ordered my R9 (No. 132) sight unseen after the prototype was unveiled at SHOT 2002 and took delivery of it in May 2004. It's my EDC and has never malfunctioned. I highly recommend that you get one for yourself. In the unlikely event that you decide not to keep it, you should have no difficulty selling it without material loss on this Forum or one of the reputable auction sites.

Good luck.

Thanks eddie_c-clamp, but I have no plans to come to NY.  Are you the same eddie_c from GlockTalk?

Thanks Richard S, I'll take you up on that offer if we can work it out to get together.

Glockbuster is a name I picked up during my IPSC days.  I shot a stock Glock 17L and regularly "busted" the guys with $2000-$3000 custom comp guns.  I've shot thousands of rounds through Glocks and haven't broken one yet!

Now I understand. I was having trouble figuring out how one would go about "busting" a Glock -- short of taking a blowtorch to it or repeatedly running over it with a steam roller. One of my LEO friends claims that he cleans his in the dishwasher, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to observe the process or to take his testimony under oath in that regard.   ;D

I've cleaned'em in the kitchen sink.  Used to really steam the comp gun guys by telling them I only cleaned my 17L once a year with hot water and dish washing soap.
