New way to reassemble

I took my pup apart the other day to clean 'er out. Of course I ran into that first-time curse of reassembly. What I ended up doing was to line up the recoil assembly and push it WAY in, allowing enough clearance to pop the barrel in underneath it. In other words I did not put the barrel in first, I put it in second. Kinda bassackwards but it worked fairly well.

I received my Pup less than a week ago and have been to the range once with great results. However I had a lot of problems putting the recoil assemble back together. Your method sounds interesting and I will give it a try on the next cleaning. Thanks for the post.

No photos but the jist of it is this:

The hardest part is getting the spring/guide assembly to line up perfectly with the hole in the slide---everything has to be linear, right? It's made more difficult by having to manuever around the barrel lug. So, leave the barrel out and line up the spring with the hole in the slide. Then compress the spring a good bit so the guide is actually sticking out the front of the slide, enough to allow clearance for the barrel to slip in underneath it. You have to have a strong thumb to push it in far enough!

I get it; thanks for the gist info. Everything is a compromise,
isn't it? I wrestled initially with the pliars, gave up on that
and then RJ came along with his great tool. That device took
a lot of stress out of the issue. Then, the hole seating thing
was difficult and was a problem. Now, as the pup has matured
it is easier to seat the pin in the hole. I will try what you
suggest but it sounds like there may be some marginal physi-
cal stress with this reverse method. All new ideas are much
appreciated, however.

The channel locks worked "ok" for me; not great.  After many attempts, it popped in.  I tried even with my fingers, but that was a no-go.  Now the PIN....well, I struggled with that one badly.  It got stuck, I couldn't pull it out, etc; FINALLY, it just dropped in.   So much for my first takedown....glad it wasn't on WWE

I don't do it with any other of the semi-auto pistols I've ever had, it's just the specific difficulty of aligning the recoil assembly that is more "problematic" than others. Yeah, a fair amount of thumb strength is required. I would suspect that as a pup wore in the recoil assembly would have more ease of travel through the front of the slide than it has as a new "stiffy"!

I bought a 3/32 pin punch that works perectly removing the barrel pin.
This gun has to be one of the finest I've ever disasembled and reasembled. I followed the directions and took it apart very easily and reasembled on the 1st try with no problems.
I had read threads like this saying they had problems getting the spring back in. I had none whatsoever. I used the channel locks like shown and dropped it right in. I don't see why anyone would have a problem?

Channel locks will work but one has to very careful not to
mar the assembly. RJ's tool worked much better for me in
this regard.
