R9s Stealth: To Buy or not to Buy
« on: February 11, 2008, 10:42:37 PM »
Just joined.  1st post.  Strongly considering purchasing an R9.  I wear suits everyday and need something that would fit in my pocket in suit pants.  Anyone here use their r9 this way in a white collar business environment?

I have come across (you may have too) an r9s for $900.  Seller claims he bought new but doesn't like it for pocket carry as it is too large.  It is stealth version.  What questions should I ask this seller?

Is this good price?  What are pros and cons of stealth version finish vs. two-tone?

Thanks a lot.  Great to a part of this forum.

Welcome to the Rohrbaugh Forum RJ

I have a R9S Stealth and it is my favorite carry. In the cold weather I usually carry it in a pocket holster in my coat pocket. Summer time it will be in my right front pocket and you hardly know you are packing.

$900 is a good price. I gave $999 for mine about a year ago.

My stealth had to go back to the factory for light primer strikes but it was corrected and 100% reliable now. They are amo sensitive and you need to try several different types of ammo and find one that it likes. My pups loves Winchester 115gr Silvertips.

I have been looking for a second R9S probably the stainless model, just for variety.

R_Junior,

Welcome to the forum!!

That is a good price IMO..

The pup is great for pocket carry, this is why it was made..

It of course is not as small as a Seecamp, but they are not available in 9mm either.. ;)

I wear mostly "leisure"type clothes, mostly jeans, and I have no problems with concealment with a good holster(RJs or Matts)

Can't give you an opinion on suit pants though..

Once again,welcome!!

RJ,

You asked if there are any questions you should ask the seller.  Unfortunately there are:

1.  Has the gun ever jammed at any time.

2.  Has the magazine ever fallen out the bottom of the gun.

3.  Has the gun erer had a failure to go fully into battery or a failure to fire when the hammer drops.

4.  Have you noticed the gun to be finiky in the type of ammo that it likes to run.

5.  Has the gun ever been back to Rohrbaugh for repair or adjustment.

The problem is, how do you know that the seller won't lie thru his teeth.  I don't know the answer to that one.

R_Junior,

I previously posted this regarding your carry situation (see link below).  If you would like more information on this product, just let me know.  I've been using it on a weekly basis with no problems at all.  I've found that a light weight dress pant is not capable of pocket carry without serious problems.  You will find a number of other options, but this is the one that I am comfortable with in a professional setting without fear of "printing" or accidental exposure.

They make a holster that apparently you can wear with almost anything.

You should probably check to see if the R9 has the new mag and recoil springs. If not, you would want to get them.

R_Junior:

Welcome to the Forum!  I think I've responded to you over on PCT, where more than a few R9 owners can also be found.

With regard to the R9, I agree with the words of the late and legendary Jim Cirillo:

“Your Rohrbaugh (R9) 9mm is the greatest backup gun in the world.”

http://www.rohrbaughfirearms.com/testimonials/testimonials_set.html

And to paraphrase an observation by "flyandscuba" on this Forum, an R9 in the pocket and a P7 on the belt makes for an excellent CCW combination.
