R9s elite

I am new to the forum,although have been lurking for a while. Am about to purchase a new R9s stealth. Has anyone seen the new R9s elite on the shelves yet or can they be ordered? Great web site by the way!

I initially ordered an R9s Stealth but when I found out the Elite was available I upgraded my order.  Cost me $200. more and I'm glad I did because I like the look of the polished slide and the polished feed ramp can only aid in shells being chambered smoothly IMO.  Have only shot Win. 115g STHP's; gun has performed flawlessly and I have been very happy with the shot groups with this ammo.  Good luck on your purchace BTW.

Thanks for the good report!  If you have the time and inclination, please post a photograph of your new pedigreed masterpiece.  (I think it was "Tracker" who first referred to the Elites as "'Pups' with papers.")

Thanks for the link. While I was search around, I also found this thread ... it appears that it is the all stainless model that I'll be sa saving for that, and the R380

Since I started this thread, thought I'd continue on it. Ended up buying a new R9s stealth ( not an Elite).  I assume it has upgraded  mag springs since the recoil springs are finished at both ends. First day out, using Winchester Super X silver tip 115 gr, I had a FTE on shots 4 and  12, then a FTE and a  failure to feed  within the next 12 rounds. Next time out I fared a bit better with Federal premium147 Hydrashocks with 1 FTE in 10 rounds. Today, using Speer Gold Dot 115gr, 1FTE and 2 failure to feeds in14 rounds. Of note, the gun is fresh out of the box. I plan to clean,lubricate, and change recoil springs at 100 rounds. The first day's failures may have been in part due to inexperience with the amount of recoil (despite having been duly warned on this website),but at 80 rounds, I don't think this is still the case.
           I really love my R9s but obviously I would not entrust my life to it yet. Any ideas? How can I make my next trip to the range more productive?

Ben,

My advice is try many different types and styles of ammo.  Do a search on this forum and you should find a couple of types of ammo which are not the regular ones that are posted that should make your R9 function perfectly.

What Mike said.  Also take care to use a firm grip when shooting the R9 and make sure the pistol has sufficient lubrication (especially along the slide/frame interface and the barrel-lug/pin area). It's also a good idea to allow the pistol to cool down a bit between prolonged strings of fire. (It will let you know when it's getting hot.   )

 I would like to update my Nov 3rd comments. Since that time,my gunsmith/firearm instructor and I cleaned, lubed and changed the recoil springs.Coupled with his expert instruction in shooting techniques, my FTE occurrences dropped dramatically. At my last visit to the range on Friday, using 6 in the mag and one in the chamber, with Winchester 115 Silvertips, she was perfect. I can now carry with confidence. I appreciate all the advise received from members of the forum.

As a post script, I found out from Maria that my gun was delivered to the dealer in May, '07. That meant it had sat on the shelf for 5 months prior to my purchase. Must have been bone dry. My bad for thinking that "fresh out of the box" meant "ready to fire". Maybe someone else can learn from this...isn't this what the forum is all about?
