If you haven't already checked Chris's FAQ site, I think you will find that it answers most questions on the subject of ammunition for the R9.

And by the way, if I haven't done so previously, allow me now to welcome you to the Forum.

I have been researching a R9 and wondered if anyone has tested the RBCD ammo?

I keep the TPD version in my Beretta 92 FS Inox for home defense and want to use the non +P version in a R9.

In case you haven't seen the ammo yet, it is very expensive, but very nasty!  Checkout the stats:
http://www.rbcd.net/Personal%20Defense%20Ammo.htm

http://www.rbcd.net/gelatin%20photos.html

The TPD is lower on the page and the nastiest of all.

RBCD ammo and website,

The website is bad.  It gives you all kind of info. except: Who makes the Brass, Bullets, Powder, where it is assembled.
I did not spend a lot of time on the site but could also not find any details about the bullet construction that is supposed to make it so good(bad).  I will pass for now.

I think I'll let someone else try it out in their R9 first.  ;)

Funny thing is my name is Mike!  ;)

What would be the best medium for me to try these in?

I don't have access to ballistics gel, but do have a outdoor range I can test stuff at.
I am planning on a R9 in the next couple weeks after my CWL comes in.

Hidden9mm,

Welcome to the forum.

I recommend the standard pressure Gold Dots or Silver Tips.

They are most often mentioned as being recommendationed by the factory folks.

Hidden9 (Mike) - welcome :)

I have stuck with 124 GD's since I had my pups.  If you want to see some results re expansion etc - and other data - go peek at my small FAQ site on the R9 - link below in my sig line.

I only used wetpack for tests but they do give some idea.

Thanks for the test results--well done.

So if I am looking for how much bang (ft. lbs.) per ounce of gun (carry size), I should be looking at a Seecamp .380 with RBCD at 283 ft.lbs. vs. R9 with Gold dots at 286.

Cavities produced are permanent caRe: ammo choices

I think this stuff sounds too good to be true.
Standard pressure, low recoil, yet astounding ballistics results. Like, "Cavities produced are permanent cavities not temporary stretch cavities." I'm no expert on ballistics but this seems hard to believe. A 4" permanent cavity from a .32acp?
They're using bullet weights about 1/2 (or less) of standard bullet weights, which makes for increased velocity, but that alone would not account for such good performance, in my opinion.
I'll be interested to see what you think of this ammo if you actually try it.

I admit I don't know enough about it to put up a case.

Regarding RBCD ammo, I got all stoked up on it a few years
ago and bought boxes in most of my pistol calibers and one
in .243. I was going on a deer hunt and thought that might be
the answer. After a few sight-in rounds at the range, I found
it to be less than accurate compared to a Federal bullet.

I shot the deer, my first and last, spot on, just above the
right shoulder joint--instant kill. This is strictly an anecdotal
analysis and I suspect the pistol rounds are awesome.

should lead to discussion about lack of proper testing of ammo
and some other questions on the stuff...sometimes too good to be
true..is too good to be true.
