Estimate birth date??
« on: July 14, 2006, 05:43:52 PM »
Can someone give a good estimate as to the manufacture date on a pup with a s/n in the low 0530s??

Thanks.

Summer 2005 is when I got mine which is close to yours.  Although Rohrbaugh is not consistent as to when they put serial numbers out.  Yours could have been before or after that.

Thanks a lot for the info. I appreciate it a bunch. I was curious because i'm getting close to consummating a Trade for a R9s.

los: given that all R9s are within +2 years old, they all are quite young. And I bet that most of them are shot very little. I wouldn't worry about the trade based on age. However, there were some minor color changes along the way:

1. Farmingdale, blue CF grips, light-gray frame
2. Farmingdale, blue CF grips, dark-gray frame
3. Farmingdale, gray CF grips, dark-gray frame
4. DeerPark, gray CF grips, dark-gray frame
5. DeerPark, black CF grips, dark-gray frame
6. DeerPark, black CF grips, very_dark_gray frame
7. DeerPark, G10 grips, new black-coated frame (coming?)

Would someone please correct me if I am wrong! :-) Thanks!

I can't say if you can go by serial number AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!

We just picked up a NEW R-9s that the dealer had just received and the serial # is R 40X.

Sir,
Please don't forget about the early gray anodized frames..Unless that is what you are referring to as the Light-gray..

Also I have Blue and Black grips, but no gray grips?
I feel left out!! >:(  ;)

I'll post a few photos once the deal is done. I can tell y'all that the R9s looks to be in pristine condition and comes with 3 mags and a few leather holsters.

I am dealing with the original owner who happens to be a Member on this Forum.

The Deal has been consummated  ;D. So as promised, here's a couple of photos. Note that grips seem darker on one of the photos, but I think the actual color is the original blueish tone.

Thanks Eric. I finally did it!!

I think I'll look into coating the pup. I use to do it on some of the 1911s I built back in the early 80s. Not sure the chemical/paint is still sold, but it was/is extremely durable.

I recently came upon a compensated caspian I built and coated in 83 and it looked pretty darn good. The coat, a semi-flat black, showed no signs of chipping. Just a little coat wear on the rails,..but expected.

Yes,
They do look a lot different!!

Even the pattern!!

Congrats on the pup!!

cuteo100,
Do happen to have a side by side, between the gray and black?

I know that there are always shades of the CF,always a big difference with the early blue for sure..

They are all good when in the pocket though!! ;)

I bought my serial #R553 just about a year ago and it's grips are black, but have a very slight hue of blue.  Then again I have been known to wear a black dress sock with a blue one before.   :D

I belive the early guns did not have a "R" prefix. I don't know exactly when the "R" prefix was adopted but I think mid to 3rd quarter 05'.
