Federal EFMJ PD9CSP2H ???
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:24:08 PM »
Being that I can't use my favorite 9mm load (Winchester 127 gr. +P+), has anyone tried the expanding full metal jacket Federal load?

I should have my refurbished Rohrbaugh R-9s by next Friday. I am looking forward to retiring my Glock 27.

Are you asking about the federal premium 9 mm 124 grain HST jacketed hollow point?

Do not retire the Glock.  I would use the r9 for true pocket carry and not the Glock for that purpose.

Negative, this is a fullmetal jacket round that expands:

I like the round :) But its a little hot for a R-9. Its a +P. The round while being a full metel jacket has no where near the profile of ball ammo though at least in 9mm.  If youve a Glock or some other comparable 9mm Id carry it,shoot it, practice with it in a heart beat. If its your R-9 though Id stick with a round more suited to it. (Silver tips, SXTS, etc.)

PersuitSS,

If it is a +P round as cpt.loolaid states, do nor fire it in a Rohrbaugh.

According to Federal's web site it is NOT +P! The old 124 gr. load was +P, it is now a non-+P 105 gr. load. I have read the warnings about not shooting +P (or +P+) loads in my (soon to have)  Rohrbaugh.

I'm looking for a load that will:

1. Feed & function 100%

2. Expand out of a short barrel, even after passing through clothing.

My R-9s is going to be my off duty piece.

PersuitSS,

When you get the Rohrbaugh by all means try these rounds thru it.  I may have to get a box of these for myself for my next range trip with the R9.  Mine doesn't like FMJ's at all.  I am gathering a collection of several different unusual and hard to find rounds to find one that will feed reliably.  Start stocking up on a variety of rounds for your R9 in case you get one with feed issues like mine.  You will want to try everything you can yourself before you take the final step to send it back for tweaking.

I have not tried that round, but have used the MAG SAFE EFMJ
rounds and like them, a lot. Not one misfire, period.  That said,
as our friends here will say, it's "spendy" at $2.00 a pop.

I bought a BUNCH (=1000 rounds) of 9mm Gold Dot HP 115 gr.
from AmmoMan.com about a year ago, and still have about
900 of em left (LOL). No flaws with these either, but I'm dying to
try the Silvertips, cause my hero, Karl Rohrbaugh uses em. Hate
to waist those GDHP though. Maybe I'll shoot those through my
Ruger SP101 in 9mm (oooh, SO SMOOTH!).

I'd try out those bad boys and see if they work. If they don't,
try the other recommended round.

Cal:

After trying several configurations, I now carry a Glaser Silver (prefrag) up the spout backed by 115-grain Gold Dots in the magazine.

Wow, Richard. I carry a MAGSAFE EMFJ (as I described) in the pipe, and the rest are GDHP 115gr in the magazine. We think alike!
