Breaking News -- G-10 Grips are Standard
« on: April 29, 2006, 08:43:42 AM »
Per Eric and Karl, R9 pistols from now on will be shipped with the G-10 grip panels.

G-10 grip sets are available for $59.95.  Carbon fiber grip sets in black will be available as an accessory for $139.95.

Here is a look at the G-10 grip panels on a "Stealth" R-9:

Sad to see the ole Carbon Fiber not to be standard but a grip option.  I'll admit that it was the CF grips that first caught my attention and drew me to the Rohrbaugh.

Functionally, the G-10 grips will be superior. Just not as exclusive. That's okay with me.

Hey DDGator,

When will the 'Stealth' R9 be available. I have an R9 on order through Tom and perhaps it would be worth a little wait for the 'Stealth'.

Tom if you pick up on my question please chime in as well.

Thanks, Fred

I just wonder what drove the change from CF to G-10 more? Was it the cost implications or the complaints about the difficulty of controlling the Pup while shooting?

Since I haven't shot my Pup yet, I can't attest to the controllability of it using the CF grips only. I have seen a ton of posts regarding grip issues, so it seems likely that Rohrbaugh picked up on that being an issue.

As for the cost of the new "Stealth" with G-10, I noticed that the MSRP listed on the original post by DDGator said $1099.00. As far as I knew, the old MSRP of the CF R-9s was $950. Did it go up to $1099 sometime later, or is the cost increase directly related to the finish treatment of the "Stealth" version?

Subjectively, it just seems there is about a 10 percent
annual increase no matter what.

I can't speak for the factory, but I do know that the Stealth model is an upcharge from the standard model.  That makes sense because there is extra cost involved in sending the parts out for the black finishing.

My impression is that the move away from CF was to keep costs under control.  The CF material is very expensive and very hard to work with.

dfsutton,

I am in the process of purchasing a pup through forum member 'theirishguard'. Tom of same mentioned that there was a recent price increase of $100 driving the cost up to $1050 for the current model in production. That would explain the 10% annual increase 'tracker' mentions.

Apparently the G10 material grips add less total cost to the finished product, considering they will be sold separatly at a significant lower price. Then again add the new coating on the slide and it may be a wash even driving the cost up somewhat.

Marketing crap will drive us all nuts some day!! ;)

Hi folks, let me enter into this a bit. The price increase of $100 took place last April, 2005. I held the price for a year, until my orders entered before the price increase ran out. So, the new price is $1050. The Stealth price is $1099, because of the additional finish cost. The CF grips are very expensive, costs keep going up monthly. They also are hard to work with and quality can be an issue to R bros. So, they just had enough and have gone to the G10 grips as standard. CF grips can be bought as a seperate item. The Stealth finish is a chemical finish not a added on coating. I hope this helps.

Tom,
When does it seem likely the "Stealth" models will be available @ your location?

In talking with Rohrbaugh today, it appears that they will not be ready to ship until Oct or Nov.

I really like the black with G10 grips!  I hope Rohrbaugh can get this to market ASAP!
