I just Got back from Range
« on: November 03, 2005, 07:55:04 PM »
I shot 75 rounds with 4 FTF's one I was able to rack the slide and continue, the other three I had to remove the mag and it popped into place, kind of tricky to get the mag out.
Is that normal?
Will it get better?
When I got home I disassembled the gun and noticed on the frame directly above the pin holes the anodizing was off of the aluminum and it looked galled.

I then lubed and reassembled, I am no expert but I sure hope it gets easier because that was a pain.

Now I think I am paranoid it seams to be rough when pulling the slide back

I guess we must accept that the aluminum is softer than steel.

I would be inclined to put more SuperLube on the rails to see if it would smooth out the slide.

Others here will know what to do.

Brother sslater has made some excellent remarks about how to reassemble the pistol.

He is a good resource for that difficult subject.

I had the same problem where I would get a FTF and the round would pop in the chamber as soon as I released the magazine.  That was maybe 75 rounds ago.  Things seem okay now.

I also took my pup out to the range last night and was able to fire 40 rounds with out any gliches what so ever.  Having completed my range session I took my "bamboo chop stick" to wedge between the breach face and the top of the barrel.  Used my bore snake gave it a few pulls, then used a Q-Tip and some superlub on the exposed barrel quide rod and under the slide.  I'll break the gun down after another 40 rounds.

Now we come to the bad part.  When it was time to leave I took my carry magazine loaded with GD 124 and racked the slide.  That first round failed to chamber preventing the gun from going into battery.  It was difficult to clear the gun and reload, but I replaced the order of the rounds in the magazine using those at the bottom last.  Those last 3 or 4 have never been chambered and the gun worked smooth.   Once again I'd like to state that perhaps the rechambering of the rounds does something to the "shape or length" of the the position of the bullet in short hanging up the motion of the slide.  The slide was worked "sharply" to gain maximum acceration.

Anyone have a similar experience?  Total round count is now upto 125.

I had some problems like you describe in the begining and found out I had a mag that was causing the problem.

IMO,
I tend to believe that a mag can be the problem for a lot of malfunctions.. :o

I have not had a problem as yet,but I understand that the mags are "lagging" in production..

Maybe a weak spot. ???

I agree Brenden, the mags deserve a hard look as they tend to be finicky and weak lipped. I tinker with my feed lips sometimes to correct FTFeed problem.

Even though I've had other problems with my pup, none of the trouble can be blamed on the magazines. I do know that sometimes when a round has been chambered a number of times. Or has been in the magazine for awhile, in a gun that has been fired a few times, that these rounds may start to get slightly longer from the recoil and momentum of being chambered. This may be causing some of the Failure to Feed problems.
