At last - THE R9 demo video.
« on: July 02, 2005, 07:58:46 PM »
Here we go folks!  Many thanks to Eric for taking the trouble to send me the original files on this.

It was available thru ShotShowTV early in the year - many of you may have seen it, not sure.  Trouble was I could not snag the flash file version to save it and so make it available.

I have converted the uncompressed Quicktime file and compressed it down to a WMV - seeing as the original material was 570Mb - this file at 6.4Mb is doing pretty good.!!  It now resides on one of my servers.

Sure, compression is pretty heavy but at least hopefully you can download it to keep and enjoy and you'll find I hope that actually it has held up pretty well.  For those who did not see it - enjoy!

It shows IMO an excellent demonstration of this unique gun.

THE KARL ROHRBAUGH R9 DEMO - 6.4Mb.

I have added the Flash version now to try and help Mac folks - it's a bigger file but does OK otherwise if you have Flash plug-in.

Flash version of Demo - 10Mb

That is AMAZING!  One video is worth 10,000 words.

And Rohrbaugh can shoot as well as he makes guns.

 Downloaded and very nice..

I saw part of this during the Shotshow period..

I agree with another thread that it would be great for them to do a dissasembly/cleaning video.. :)

I would buy that in a heartbeat..

Great video.  Karl definitely can shoot -- he has shot competitively for a long time.

Of course, I note that he is using an R-9s with sights!  ;)

Dick - ( rWt ) messaged me - he has a Mac which of course usually uses quicktime MOV files.  I had as ever forgotten about this and so will try and place an alternative.  I do have the Flash version tho it's larger at 10Mb or so.

Any further feedback on what Mac's can use would be good to know.  I have a feeling they can get a player for WMV but not sure how or where.

On a Mac I would suggest a program called VLC. It is open source (free) and you can find it by searching for "VLC +Mac". Works fine.

Indeed had forgotten VLC with regard to Mac's - useful to have.  I am gonna do an mpeg anyways when I have time so it'll help out for a few.

Brass In The Air -

Stop action (pause button) on the video allowed me to count 2 casings in the air and to wonder if a 3rd casing had hit the ground yet.

50% Keyholes ? -

During the 7 yard shooting demo, the camera gives a close-up of the target.  Out of 6 shots, three clearly appear to keyhole the target. A fourth bullet seems to partially keyhole the target.

I think on the paper target at 7 yards we have the classic FMJ, JHP jagged hole syndrome - I'd not want to ascribe irregularities to any tumble until shooting thru thicker card.  Only semi wadcutters really tell the fullest story.... and they are imparctical.

It is of course possible - as we know some tumbling can occur but I'd want a thicker target.

Haven't checked the brass in the air as yet.

That video is much appreciated.  Good work!

And yes, I am another who would gladly pay for a maintenance assembly-disassembly video, and a comprehensive tool that would solve all problems and make it a pleasure to take apart.

Better still, I would rather see everything come along with the pistol in the very beginning.  To me, it would be worth the additional cost.

The R9S will be a treasured possession, and no one wants to fight with it all the time, just to do routine maintenance.

I have never touched one, so these comments may be premature.  For all I know, it is a joy to take apart and put back together.

RJ, nice work on the aluminum chop stick.  We just returned from vacation and were pleased to see it.

Wow! ~ Where the heck did you find that video!? Oh, that's right, I sent this to R9SCarry 11 years ago! lol. We did that at the very same range where a lot of the early R&D was done on the R9 pistols. That is The Town of Islip Rifle & Pistol Range on Freeman Avenue. Karl and I would go there in the early 1960s with our father to shoot. Dad had us shoot his Remington bolt action .22LR rifle there and show us firearm safety and how to shoot the gun accurately and give it respect due to the inherent danger of a firearm. We had them in the house then and never thought much of them, they were simply a tool. Never "played" with them in the house either. Anyway, great memories seeing this video again.
