American Handgunner featured a picture of karl's mom shooting the R9.  However, I doubt that most women would want to deal with that much recoil in that small a gun.

I sold a R9S to a young and small woman, who is about 5'5" and 110#. She has a shooting background of shooting both a HiPower and 1911. She is shooting 2-3" groups with the R9S. She told me the recoil is there but not bad. She likes it better than the .32acp in a Seecamp.    Tom

Not too surprised Tom - that sorta ''shootin gal'' has already learned the art of semi's ... and if even small ladies get their grip and technique right - no problem.  Good for her

My wife got her CCW very recently and for now she is ''equipped'' with my ol' trusty M85 38spl .. she is good with wheel guns (her house gun is M66).  However, I'd not be disappointed to sometimes lose my R9 to her if she could become familiar and happy with it.  Remains to be seen - she is due some more range time soon.

Gentlemen:
Since we're on the topic of women shooters - When I first got my Glock 36, (single stack .45), I let three (3) plaincloths detectives (from Hudson County, NJ) shoot it.
Of the three detectives, two were burly guys and the third was this cute little girl, less than 100 lbs.
The two burly guys thought the Glock 36 was stout and did not like it, preferring their service isssue 9MM Glocks.
The little female detective? Blam, blam, blam, blam; bullseye, bullseye, bullseye.....
This girl had what it takes. If I were a plain cloths law enforcement officer, I'd have wanted the girl as my partner.

My wife likes the R9 but prefers her Glock 23. It's big enough to scare the bad guys coming out of her gun purse and she shoots it well. The recoil isn't the problem. If she can't get all her fingers on it with comfort, she doesn't feel she has complete control.

Most women can handle recoil but can not handle-holding a heavy gun up for long because of the lack of upper  body strength.   Tom

I'll put in another vote for SP-101 as a possible.  I like mine, it is often carry - and with CT grips a versatile and reliable piece.

I like your SP-101 a lot...!  What do you load it with...?  Also...do you know if Ruger makes an SP-101 .357 snubbie with a recessed hammer...?  That, plus the CT sight, is something I would like to have.  I currently have a S&W 349 (...I think?) set up that way...but I like the more rugged build of the Ruger...TW<<
