Why purchase the  .380 verses the 9mm
« on: February 18, 2009, 05:47:22 PM »
My would I want a 380 verses the 9mm model.  Less recoil would be my only answer - which may help with quicker target acquisition.

I have the 9mm for about 2 weeks now, and it's a nice machine..

I guess my question is:  Why purchase the .380 vs. the 9mm AT THE SAME PRICE?   :-/

That's what doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me when there are already many other light, small, .380's already on the market with more to follow?  Since the size, weight and PRICE of this pistol are the same as the R9 I would buy another R9 for the $$$.  (Or, maybe a Seecamp .380  ;D  )

Nice point.  Yes, for the price - the 9mm would be the way to go (IMHO).  For a lady, the 380 might be smarter.  From what I can see, it's the same amount of work that goes into the 380 as the 9mm, so you are paying for excellent workmanship..  It's not mass production.. and not made in China

I have the R9s and the Seecamp .380 but I am still getting the R380.  Some of us mousegun nuts just like to collect and keep these things.  :)

That might be an accurate asessment.  A year ago I had one Seecamp and now I have three Seecamps and the second Rohrbaugh is on the way.  Those things multiply like rabbits.  :)

henryk,

I hear you loud and clear!!!  And, I understand.  And, I have no doubt that this R380 is a superb pisol.  If it gives you pleasure please allow me to be the first to say to you and to anyone else "Go for it!!"   :)  It is a great choice.

I also have no doubt as to the value of the R380.  I know that it takes the same material, same amount of time to produce, etc. as it's 9mm sibling so I have no negative feelings about any of that.

I'm just sayin' that with all the other small, light weight, concealable .380's out there, including many high quality choices, for $1169.00 I would opt for another 9mm version and something smaller in a .380.

But hey, as the old saying goes:  Opinions are like a**holes,
everybody has one.  This one is only mine.  ;D

Regards and congrats on your soon to be new .380.

PS  I would be delighted to own one too.  ;)

Hello.  I am new to the forum and am trying to decide on the new Rohrbaugh  380 or the Seecamp 380.  I have just received a new Seecamp 32 and am very impressed.

Any advice?

Tom, after showing my wife Richards seecamp 32 I started looking for one.  She now carries a Keltec p32 or S&W 38 snub.

In another life she was in law enforcement but still complains about recoil from the 38 however she loves the p32.

She hates my r9s because of the recoil, How much better is the 380 in this reguard?

Ken:

Welcome!

If this is of any assistance, the Seecamp .380 is a straight-blowback design. The Rohrbaugh .380 is a locked-breech design. Both are superb pocket pistols, but in the identical caliber a straight-blowback pistol will produce greater felt recoil than one with a locked-breech mechanism.

Richard:

Many thanks for the info!  I do like the locked breech on the

That is a hard question.  I have a few LWS .380s - not counting several LWS .32s.  So you could say I am a Seecamp nut.  The recoil on the LWS .380 is a challenge.  I usually wear a bandaid on my trigger finger to keep it from bleeding from hitting the trigger guard on recoil.

Saying all of this if I could only buy one - given I already had a R9 and a Seecamp LWS .32 - I probably would go with the LWS .380 because of the size difference.

That is not  saying if I had the funds I would not also get a the R-380 sometime to go along with my R-9.  I also have .380s in a Colt Government and Ruger LCP - so I like the caliber.

I have purchased a R-9, Seecamp LWS .32 and LWS .380 from Tom Watson here on the forum.  Wonderful guy to do business with.

One of my LWS .380s with a SS# STING - named aflter the sword of Bilbo and Frodo  in the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings books.

Or ST1NG can be when you finger hits the front of that guard ;)  Also Kjtrains if you got both the seecamps .32/.380 you could use the same holster for both of them,I have five different holsters for my LWS .32 and just ordered a LWS .380 last week so the holsters I have will work for the .380 also ;D
