Hybra Port Porting HELP PLEASE

Hello,
I really like the idea of modifying the weapon and I want to do it but unfortunately in Bulgaria there is nothing in weapons stores, Custom workshops in Bulgaria - I can only dream. So I decided to modified weapon itself.
I apologize to bother you with my problems but I have no choice.
This is for my Ruger SP101; 357mag.; 3 1/16'' Barrel.

With much difficulty I got different quality stuff from America and so far I have done the following modifications:
1. Rubber Monogrip
2. Complete Action Tuning
3. Replace all Springs
4. Polish all Plungers and Pins
5. Recontour & Polish Triger and Hammer
6. Green Night Sight

I really want to do and this modification:
1. Hybra Port Porting and because there is no information anywhere on how this should be done.

If you have a little time, could you help me with some information about Hybra Port Porting - with what diameter drill holes, I saw different photographs  in INTERNET that are open with different size (diameter) of greater towards less?

Please, can anyone who has such a revolver Ruger SP101; 357mag.; 3 1/16'' Barrel, to measure the holes in Hybra Port Porting and distance between them?
Any information would be useful for me - Hybra Port Porting.

I would advise against porting a self-defense weapon, especially attempting to do it yourself.  If you really insist on it there may be better sources of information than this forum. You might try this link for more technical expertise.

Hello Dan - welcome to the forum.

I have to agree and partially disagree with tracker.

I know why he said not to port a self defense gun and most experts agree.  But I believe that is a personal choice and that there are valid reasons to do it.

I went through a "phase" when I had a several of my defense guns ported.  Now I wish I had not done it.

Even wearing double hearing protection, they are so LOUD, they can still cause irreversible hearing loss/damage. Especially when shot indoors.

I now suffer the consequences.

Where I agree 100% with tracker:

Do NOT attempt to port your gun yourself!

Those are not just holes.

Those are acutually scientifically engineered "Jets" or - "Nozzles".

Someone like Magnaport or Wil Schuman needs to do the work.

Not even your trusty gunsmith.

Reinz summed up this issue quite well; I don't think that this forum is the place to look for an answer to your question--it is beyond our scope. Good  luck in your porting venture.

Dan, even if you get the measurements, those "holes" are not drilled.  
Those are performed by EDM machines.  Sort of like reverse welding.
That way there are no burrs in the bore rifling.

Drilling will problably harm accuracy.

There must be some professional in Europe that has experience doing this with EDM and doing it successful.

Actually, drilling can be done, but it's not something that can be done without a lot of knowledge, and the proper equipment.  John Norrell drills ports in the barrels of his suppressed 10/22's.  Here is a quote from his website:

"Barrels are ported to allow gas to escape into the cooling area of the suppressor. Ports are drilled and deburred using our exclusive and unique method of countersinking each port internally to prevent any disruption of the bullet as it passes over the ports. There is no accuracy loss with our deburring method. Barrel porting allows the use of less expensive high velocity ammo, which is reduced to a sub-sonic speed to avoid a sonic crack. A baffle network is positioned in front of the barrel to retain gas until cooled. "

Horseman - thank you for educating me and sharing this information.  That baffles me that countersinking can be done, especially in a .22!   That is awesome.

Too bad Dan does not have access to this technology over in Europe.

there's a gunsmithing forum over on 24hour someone there might be able to help you and give you the dimensions along with a way to deburr the bore.  but again if you don't have the means to deburr the bore your just waisting your time and money ruining a good barrel.
