Kangaroo shoulder holster for R9s
« on: May 04, 2009, 12:37:17 PM »
Quick question to see if anyone has used or is using the Kangaroo shoulder holster for their R9s.

 http://www.deepconceal.com/

It appears to be a potential option especially here in South Texas where 90+ weather is common for 1/2 of the year.  And Short & Golf Shirt is the standing dress code.

Thanks!

I have always liked the idea of the Kangaroo but have never heard
it or any shoulder holster mentioned on this forum. It seems to me
that the covering shirt would have to be very loose fitting and untucked
for the gun to be at the ready in a stressful situation.

Seems like it would be hot and uncomfortable with that band across the chest.

I tried taking my Pup in-hand and pushed & pulled it out of my dress shirt in-between my shirts button and guess what --- it fit threw the gap between buttons.  In the event of a hostile confrontation, I think an attacker would be far less guard from someone acting like they are grabbing their chest out of fear vs. reaching in a pocket or waist band of small of the back.
From just my experience of carrying around as Smartphone (Blackberry) on a side clip holster, in-Pocket, etc., I just think of all the awkward spearing, stabbing, and pressure caused by those devises which are still smaller and about a quarter of the weight in the course of everyday activity.
From what I’ve read, it appears that the Kangaroo holster configuration is one of the carrying style approaches utilized by the US Air Marshalls.  Talk about a roll that concealment is paramount and involves significant about of confided sitting.
Also has is there a Fobus holster that fits the R9?  This seems like a ideal side holster for tactical training or to where under a un-tucked shirt.
Thanks --- Jim

Seems like the cotton construction would suck up perspiration and deliver it directly to the gun.

Shoulder holsters look cool, but I'll stick with a strong side IWB.

At least people won't be able to tell when you're cold....hey ohhh!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.  I personally feel that a pocket or IWB is sufficient enough for me as a concealed carry option.

I would think this would be used for hiding a "last resort" gun that absolutely cannot be detected w/o actually doing a pat down, and probably used for undercover type operations.

I agree, it would be tough to get to in a high stress situation.
Is that a 9mm in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

I use a similar holster called the concealment T Holster, and it works great, I wear a shirt and tie all the time and in the hot months it conceals well without a coat.  It may take a few seconds longer to get to, but isn't it better than not having a weapon at all. Don't know about you but being so close to my armpit I'm afraid I will smell up my R9.  For me IWB is the way to go if shirt is untucked and pocket it shirt is tucked.

Nothing really, I use that on rare occassions, but like anything it is a matter of preference and comfort for me.

I'm not sure how others wear their clothes, but for me that would make the pistol virtually inaccessible in my standard SE TX golf shirt and shorts.

Because of the size I've opted to carry my R9s in a high ride OWB under the golf shirt. Tucked into my side it's is well-hidden, but plenty accessible by lifting the shirt tail with my off hand.

I probably would have gone IWB like the rigs for my bigger pistols, but my holster maker convinced me that getting a decent grip would be problematic with the R9's small grip size.  I think he was probably right, but would be intersted in hearing others' experience with IWB.

Bill, I have a IWB from Jim at Hidden Holsters and waer it in the small of my back.  The canter on the holster is perfect for the R9s that I carry, it enables the grip to stick up at the perfect angle.  When I reach around for the R9 the butt of the grip is in the palm of my hand.
The holster does a nice job of portecting the trigger on the draw.

In our Conceal Carry Schooling our sheriff recommended not carrying a weapon in the small of your back due to the danger of falling on your back and injuring yourself.  He explained in a skirmish, this could likely happen.  Food for thought!!

I know of one man who used to duct tape a Seecamp to the inside of his thigh before heading out into the bush. He called it his "Ace in the Hole." (Seemed to me more like an invitation to tinea cruris ["jock itch"].  ;) ) In any event, that Kangaroo rig looks downright comfortable in comparison.
