Skateboard tape works miracles

I'm going to try some grip tape but here's a dumb question...how do I remove it if I don't like it?  
Does it peel off easily or is it a pain to get it off?

It is very easy to remove with no discernible residue trace.

Well, I put some tape on.  1/2" x 1" on the front strap and 1/2" x 1-1/2" on the back strap and I think I'm going to like it. I'm going to try to get to the range later this week.
I still might try the Uncle Mikes grip when I get around to ordering one though.

Do the edges of the tape tend to peel up?

The edges of my tape do not peel up.

I carefully cleaned with alcohol before starting.

The edges of mine have worn somewhat, but it is a generalized wear and means nothing.  It is still very rough.

I picked up one of the Uncle Mike's grips to see if I liked it better than grip tape. My grip tape peeled off easily enough, but it was nearly impossible to get all of the sticky residue off the gun, even with alcohol. I must have different skateboard tape than you, tracker.
Anyway, while I was putting the Uncle Mike's on, a chunk of it broke off. I was of course stretching it to get it on, but not all that much. I've put several of the Hogue slip on grips on other guns and stretched them much more than that with no problems. It seems to me the material used for the Uncle Mike's is not of the same quality as the Hogues.
Oh well, it's still functional so I can at least try it out to see how I like it.

I couldn't locate the Uncle Mikes....so I picked up the Butler Creek .....small #50541 for $10. at the local Gander Mtn....
split a fingernail getting it on, but no tears.  And, hey...it's for the cause, right?.......Brian

To remove tape adhesive residue, try some cigarette lighter fluid (pure Naptha).  It'll take off most adhesives which are still sticky, and should not harm the finish of your gun (though you'll want to re-oil).

Seven is right re naptha - it should do well.

One other ''trick'' BTW re these slip-on grip deals.  I have a 22/45 I use for pin shooting and needed some improvment in grip feel.  I applied a small Hogue handall but - knowing I'd need to remove them for take down - applied a minute amount of silicon lube to inside.

Now beware folks - this slippy stuff seems to make slippy at the molecular level - so less is more.!!  Take the smallest amount you can and smear around inside of slip-on - you'll hopefully hardly see it but still feel that ''silky'' feel.  This minimalist approach will ensure grip does not slide around - too much and it might.

This will not only make fitting easier but - all but guarantee they will come off again.  Once on those suckers can be hell to remove without using a knife otherwise and now and again you will want to get inside that right side grip panel.

Based upon my experience, Goo Gone is "king of the hill" when it comes to removing sticky labels, sticker residue, etc.  

It is commonly available.  Please buy some.  You will wonder how you ever did without it.

"Goo Gone" or other similar citrus-based adhesive removers should be available at any hardware store, and probably at WallyWorld, et cetera.  I don't care for them because some leave a slight oily residue which can prevent getting good adhesion with subsequent applications of tape.  YMMV.
