finally...
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:23:20 PM »
happened just yesterday: after wanting a rohrbaugh for something like seven years (and lurking around this forum all during that), i'm getting one at last!

a used R9s Stealth showed up in our classifieds here recently, back east. a shooting buddy of mine happens to live near the seller so he checked it out. being in very very nice shape, he picked it up. he's bringing it out to eastern oregon to give to me on his yearly visit, but unfortunately it won't be for a couple of months yet. the wait may just kill me...

i've tried endless number of firearms for everyday carry over the last 40 years. most recently i've been pocketing a 32 seecamp when carrying concealed in town, often switching off to a much larger belt-carried hi-cap 9 when traveling in not-so-nice areas of bigger cities i might have to visit, so my "new" R9s should be the perfect "compromise" for EDC.

(side note: while working around the ranch on horseback or ATV, i usually carry a "beater" stainless ruger montado 45LC, or if wearing clean clothes to a nearby BBQ i might belt on a fancy blue/case-hardened USFA 3.5" Storekeeper 45LC in a basket-weave milt sparks HSR)

i've already ordered a PJ kydex J-clip holser for the R9s, and might just pony up for a set of black G10 checkered VZ grips this week too.

i'm all itchy and can't scratch, which is making me crazy!

its great being a member of this wonderful forum. thank y'all for your kind help and support thus far.

coyote.  Congrats on the purchase of the Stealth.  That wait is definitely going to be, not good.  I'd have to pay shipping and get it sooner.  Good luck on the wait!

Good thinking.  You will now have time to purchase your second R9 before you get your first.    :)

thanks everyone. the problem is that i can't seem to think about anything except my R9s. that's why i'm sitting here on a nice sunday afternoon instead of getting outdoors.

i have lots of chores to do that require a bit of thinking, but i'm afraid of doing things like doing re-wiring, or running the backhoe, if i can't focus right...

maybe i can talk the wife in giving me a holiday until that rohrbaugh comes visit in june. yeah, right.  8)

The wait sucks. I spent months researching the R9 - read about every post here, searched for every review and post on other forums - before I decided I was going to buy one.

Once I made that decision - I wanted it YESTERDAY and the wait until I finally got it seemed endlessly long.

On the other hand - that first range session put a smile on my face from ear to ear; it's still there when I think about shooting it. It may not be a "range gun" and the "carry a lot and shoot a little" may be an apt description - but I love shooting the pup.

Have him ship that sucker to your FFL for you to pick up soon so you don't have to wait that long!  That way you will take possession of it legally & have it much sooner.

PS.  Having him cross state lines and handing it over to you, although I bet it's done all the time and people never get caught, is not legal.

Good point.

Especially since it's been made so public and all.

It don't get anymore public than the internet.

is it? i had no idea. well, maybe he will have to ship it to me after all.

one can't give a firearm to someone from another state? (i'd understand not being able to in someplace like NY where just owning it requires paperwork, but in my state we trade around all the time and filed paperwork isn't required unless its in a shop or gun show.)

If what you are planning to do were legal you could just drive to another state and purchase a gun and drive home.

Unfortunately, ATF could probably go after you a couple of different ways, IF they wanted to.

The Strawman purchase: when someone buys for someone elses - other than family.

Then the ol' crossing state lines and with a handgun nonetheless!   If a long gun was a connecting state no prob, but this does not fall here.

If you really want to pursue this to save $50 (understandably), then go to a gunshop and speak to the knowledgeable guy, not the 18yr kid and ask him or Betty in charge of records.
Or
Call ATF, they are not the Demons everyone makes them out to be.  If you are paranoid, then go to a pay phone IF you can find one.  And state your case.

wow, live and learn. thnx guys!

i so rarely leave my state that i haven't run into this before. i've never had an interest in breaking or even bending laws, so i'll only do what's right here. just tried calling the ATF but they're closed today. will do so on monday so i don't end up making any mistakes.

also, can a private legal firearm owner from out-of-state sell you their firearm if you both go to a local FFL holder to do the paperwork & transfer FTF? or does it require that the firearm only be transported interstate between the two states via two FFL holders? i ask because i thought i remembered hearing about handgun trades between idaho and oregon buddies done just that way. am i mistaken?
