Del Fatti Holsters for Seecamps on eBay
« on: January 25, 2011, 01:12:47 PM »
For those Seecamp owners among us with a little spare change left after Christmas and before tax time, look what just popped up on eBay:   8)

I have no connection to or knowledge of the seller, who is reported to have a 100% positive feedback after 59 transactions.

I never begrudge someone making a few dollars but the Shark holsters are only $136.50, you would have to be in desperate need of instant gratification to pay that much.

I think Matt himself resents the actions of some people who seem to purchase his holsters only for the purpose of "scalping" them like tickets to a sold-out rock concert.

I don't have a problem with someone purchasing an item that has a long wait list and reselling it for a profit. Selling it for a $273.50 profit is a little excessive.

Everything seeks a reversion to the mean in economics but if the current trend in "soft" commodities such as wheat, corn, and soybeans, etc., continues to escalate, our $50-$60 custom holsters may be a thing of the past. I have noticed an upward bias in the last year or two in certain holster makers; then, there is the supply and demand issue in some top tier craftsmen.

I agree.  That's quite too much!

People can sell things for whatever they want (e.g, home, car, gun, holster, diamonds, coins, insurance etc...). I don't see any problem with that and to suggest that seller is doing something wrong is kind of ridiculous IMO. The price is high, but the same can be said about many things in life. There is a best offer option too...

I agree: the market sets the price on whatever it will bear.

CCW.  We're not saying the seller is doing anything wrong, so to speak, he's just asking way too much and out of the ordinary profit margin.  Don't want to offend anyone here, just my thoughts.  It is good there's a best offer option.

I just don't see the problem in a person selling something for whatever they want to. There is a waitlist for Matt's holsters and high demand. The ebay seller owns the holsters and can ask whatever he wants for them. If people are willing to pay his asking prices so be it. Matt should be flattered that his work is so valued by people and that he gets the free exposure on ebay. I guess I don't understand what you mean by an out of the ordinary profit margin. I wish you were in charge of home sales in the US  ;) People are making huge profits every day!!

We seem to be confusing some things here. The "bid-ask" spread may be perceived as excessive but the market will work it out. Matt's holsters seem to have a cross elasticity of demand which means because of limited supply and increasing demand his prices increase faster than others. The ask price will only increase until no one makes any bid offers. There is no excessive or too much; the market sets the selling price.

Sorry, CCW.  I really don't like the huge gas profits those guys are getting.  Nothing I can do about it , but sure wish I could.    :)

Well, there's an offer on each holster.  We'll see if they are accepted.
