Breaking News: Sig P290 9mm Subcompact
« on: October 28, 2010, 05:24:54 PM »
Well, this is interesting...

http://www.pitchengine.com/pitch/98020/

More competition in the sub-compact single-stack 9mm market.

This was a well kept secret.  When I was at Sig, they told me something big was breaking in time for SHOT.  Well -- they are a little early!

Thanks, Duane; concealed carry is the name of the game but 20 oz. is a bit heavy for my pocket.

If that is the unloaded weight -- the gun is a bit porky.

You can bet that they wouldn't advertise a loaded weight on their sales brochure.

   It's the same size as a Kahr PM40 and it weighs more
(17.7 oz for the PM40) and has less punch.
 I think I'll pass on these.

It's still a 9mm with a low round capacity. ::)

Even though this thing can't hold a candle to the pup, strangely enough it will pass the 5000 mark in sales in 2 0r 3 months if not the first.  Hell, CDNN and Bachman Pawn can sell a couple of thousand together the first year.

That gun will be a "filler" for Sig.  Those that bought 380s will move up to the 290  to fill in between therir full size or 239's.  And those with full size will drop down who did not like or want a 380.  And of course LE will do the BUG thing.
 Basically their "brand loyalists" alone will keep it going.

They know Rohrbaugh is a niche gun and has just a bite of the pie.  Why go for a bite when you can get a piece for less effort ?

It is not the gun for me.

I found my holy grail.

Just being a gun guy all my life and in the industry like yourself and around 50 -100 gun guys evey weekend in competition; I know, you know, the Rohrbaugh is not for everyone.  Even a lot of concealed carriers just don't get it, or won't justify it.
