   HK P7 showed up
« on: September 21, 2010, 07:28:44 PM »
I'm going to start a new thread for this, I don't want to hijack Dino's thread like I did JHawks. So here we go, the new P7 showed up at my FFL's today. It is an "A" grade and looks great. But, it WILL look better. I don't believe it needs any internal work at all, but there again is another place where I need advice. If a little knowledge is dangerous then I must be the safest person around. So, for now I'm turning this thread over to the P7 advisory board. Any suggestions, ideas. hints or just plain thoughts gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.    Gene

A couple things I forgot to mention in the first post.
The gun has plastic grips which have gotta go. I accessed Nill's website and left more confused than when I went in. Oh Esmeralda, where are you when I really need you? Also, the gun is marked with the NDS inside the oval. Richard mentioned that that was the insignia for the state police. It is also marked "HKI Columbus Georgia" in all the posts about the P7, I don't remember that one being mentioned. That oughta keep you busy for awhile.  Thanks again, Gene

Gene,
As previously mentioned the "NDS" is designated as the Lower Saxony region and HKI is from Columbus, Ga. because HK opened a plant there in 2004. Yours may or may not be reworked depending on a "DE" mark on the slide but the internals should be fine.

Gene, congrats on the p7's arrival.  Though I can offer no advice, I wish you the best from all the P7 experts here.  I know it will turn out surperb.

welcome to the world of HK!! (I own 3 but don't have a P7 yet--been thinking about one)

next to my Rohrbbaughs, they're my favorite guns (and my wife caries a 9mm P2000sk--she doesn't like the recoil of the R9)

you may want to check out the forum section on

www.hkpro.com

also be sure to check out "The Pistols" under "HKPros World of HK" on the opening page---great detailed history and variations of your gun

lots of helpful info and generally great folks on that site

Thanks guys, you're helping already. Tracker, the slide is marked DE, which means what? Another question... the frame is marked HKI Columbus Ga, and the slide is stamped "Made in W.Germany. Thanks again for the help.      Gene

Gene,

"DE" is a recent export rollmark which just signifies Deutschland, maybe started in 2009. Earlier imports just have the circled eagle. They are all made in Germany; yours was imported into Columbus Georgia. "DE" may or may not signify that it was reworked in Germany. My opinion is that "DE" became a requirement to designate German export sometime recently. They are all good; some just more collectible than others, similar to the R9.

Gene.  Here's a shot in the dark.  Don't know if it will help or not.

Gene:

Here is a shot of Pete Foldyna's Micarta grips which he made for my P7, but he also offers walnut grips: ( http://www.grips4u.net/index.php?cPath=43_66&osCsid=f11abe75451928c53d4c8b277eb73ffd ):

And, yes, that is a Del Fatti ISP-4 behind it.  8)
