I have an R9 and love it but I also just purchased 3 HKs over the past 4 months---a P2000 and 2 P2000sks--all 3 in 9mm (my wife CCs one of the sk's). I love them--I did a lot of research and found that VERY few folks who've bought an HK don't love them.
The recoil on all the new polymer HKs are among the softest of any guns on the market (after all it was HK that invented and marketed the first polymer frame pistol) there's lots of info on their light recoil --you can google for links
Check out     www.hkpro.com    it's the HK equivelent of this site--lots of great folks on that site just like on this one.

Also take a look at this--a guy is running a torture test on an HK P30--as of this week, he's put 58,746 rounds thru it in the past 28 weeks with 0 malfunctions. (He also did the same thing previously with a P2000)

http://pistol-training.com/    scroll down to see the running update

also, the range I go to has a P2000 for rental use (they took it in on a trade) they said it hasn't been cleaned in almost 3 years it's been rented "because it doesn't need it yet" !! (I clean my own guns after each range session) but a friend of mine rented that gun and put 100 rounds thru it to try it before he bought his own HK---that rental functioned flawlessly

Some of these newer HKs seem to treat what we used to call "dreck" as if it were merely lubrication.  :o
