Hi Folks,
Recently I was here asking for help in my consideration regarding the potential purchase of a new HK P2000sk V3. I appreciate all the responses you offered.. Thanks!
I bought a P2000sk V3, and after having it a few days and having shot it a bit I offer my early impressions for those of you who might have an interest.
Pros & Cons:
Cons:
1. The right side slide release has a "rattle".. I had researched the pistol before purchase so knew coming in this might be a concern so I was not surprised when it popped up.
There are several temporary "fixes" for this problem offered on the HKPRO forum, and one was to cut a very tiny piece of velcro (smooth side) and put it behind the slide release. I did that, and it works. No more rattle. But I can't use the right side slide release now, and since I'm a lefty, that's not a good thing.
Being 66 yrs old I've learned to adjust to a right-handed world long ago, and in fact most of my pistols don't even offer dual slide releases.. So, I'm well familiar with using a left side slide release, but on a quality firearm that cost almost $900.00 I don't think it should rattle... I spoke to HK CS in Columbus, Ga. earlier this AM and they said the folks in Germany have been told of this problem more than once, but so far no permanent fix is available. Guess it "is what it is"?
The P2000sk V3 does come with a lifetime warranty, so guess down the road if and when a permanent rattle "fix" is made I'll get it free.
2. Grip: I have smaller hands, and the standard 10rd mags w/fingertip ext. fits me just fine, but I can see where someone with larger paws would NOT be happy with the grip offered by these mags. Fortunately the sk accepts the full size (13rd) P2000 mags, and with the X-grip adapter the larger mags fit, function, and look "factory", and offer a super grip and "feel".. So good in fact I'll be using the larger P2000mag in the pistol for home defense/vehicle duty, and the more compact 10rd'ers for cc. I think anyone would be happy with the feel and grip of the sk with the larger mag.
Additionally I've read where a flat floorplate is available (perhaps the one from the 357Sig model) and it seems from research many folks like them better than the originals.
3. The location of the decocker.. This is not a "con" for righties as it's just to the left of the hammer, and I think ideal for right handed owners, but for us lefties it's a "con".. But still no problem for me as I don't use the decocker much. I cc with the hammer down for a da first round. If the need arose for me to use the decocker I could with the oft hand.
PROS:
Everything not mentioned above..
This pistol is amazingly accurate.. I have two P7's and I have used those as my "standard" for pistol accuracy, and I honestly believe this P2000sk V3 is their equal in accuracy.
The DA trigger is, well, DA.. Not great, not bad. The SA trigger is excellent. Very, very good.
The three dot sights are satisfactorily large and easy to use, I like 'em.
When you insert a mag in the magwell it locks in with a satisfying "click" as do my P7's.. It's the sound of a vault door closing, and you never have to worry as to whether the mag is seated correctly or not. (As I have to do on occasion with my 3rd gen Smiths).
When we first took the P2000sk V3 to the range I let my bride of over 41 years shoot it first. She is 5' tall, 65 years old (I didn't say that),has had carpel tunnel surgery on both hands and rarely shoots anymore. With her first few shots she had failures to eject, which I immediately attributed to "limp wristing".. I SUGGESTED a change in her grip, and every round she shot thereafter was flawless and she was hitting the Xring with regularity shortly thereafter. (We were shooting from 7', which I consider my personal self defense practice distance).
Every round I fired functioned perfectly..
Did I mention this pistol is amazingly accurate?
I sold an "A" grade HK P7 to help finance this P2000sk V3 and in hindsight was it a good trade-off?
Most certainly... But then I had THREE HK P7's, so it's not like I was trading my only P7 for the P2000sk V3. Had I only one P7 would I still have sold it to buy the new pistol? Probably not.
But I WOULD have continued saving until I had the money to buy the P2000sk V3..
I've owned pistols/revolvers for over 50 years and the five most accurate of the herd was a fine Walther P99c/AS, all of my HK P7's, and this P2000sk V3.
I can handle velcro behind the right side release for the other outstanding qualities offered by this new P2000sk V3.
I love my new P2000sk V3..
Best Wishes,
Jesse
