Back in the '80s, I owned one of the UZI semi-automatic carbines chambered for .45 ACP. I let it go in '90 prior to heading off to Africa. It was totally reliable and had one of those "so-ugly-it's-attractive" aspects about it. It also made a real racket during rapid fire --something like the sound of a handful of bolts being shaken in a galvanized bucket.  :D  Do any of you UZI fans out there own one of those .45 ACP "threshing machines"?

WS6,

Well, first off, I wouldn't call a long barreled UZI a "rifle".
UZI's are good but I would put my MAC 11/9 up against an UZI any day.  My MAC eats almost anything and is totally reliable.  The rate of fire is almost double that of the UZI and even with that rate of fire with a little practice it hits what you aim at.  There is nothing like hitting the happy switch on a MAC to put a smile on your face except maybe putting your thumbs on the switch of a full auto M2HB. ;D

WS6:

This is the one I used to own:

I note that there's now one of the Action Arms imports from IMI being advertised on Gunbroker.com -- said to be unfired and for a BIN price of $2,500.00. (My "heirs and assigns" will probably wish I had kept mine.   :o)

WS6:

Not a problem. I knew what you meant. Besides, the distinctions tend to get fuzzy at the edges. There are some short-barreled assault rifles, such as the AR18S, HK33KA1, SIG SG543, and Galil SAR, which are almost as compact as an SMG carbine. There are also the so-called "assault carbines," such as the HK53 and XM-177E1 Colt Commando, which could be called hybrids of the assault rifle and the SMG. And then the National Firearms Act adds to the confusion by classifying firearms with shoulder stocks and barrels less than 16 in (406 mm) in length as "short barreled rifles."

WS6,

I guess I took your post and you took my reply to seriously.  I know all the technecalities.  The long barreled UZI carbine is definately a rifle it is just hard for me to think of it as such.
I am with you on haveing fun and trading stories.  Way, way back before I knew a lot about firearms I wanted a UZI too but if I was given one today I would sell it.  That is OK, we all have different tastes in guns and that is what makes the world go around.

I wish I had an UZI to sell.  There is only 1 more gun that I have an interest in acquiring and a good UZI would probably just about allow me to buy it.  What I have my eye on is a Ruger Gold Label.  There are a few other guns that I would like to own but unless I hit a lottery they will never be in my safe. :(

On second thought...If WS6 finds any more guns in the back of that safe he may start giving some away.  ::)
