My new "snubbbie"...
« on: September 08, 2006, 10:13:35 PM »
Though I'll probably not use this for concealed carry -- I'll still need someone to make some leather for it...

It should arrive next week...range report to follow -- should I have the courage to shoot it! :o

Fly, That is probably the wildest snub.   Where will you use this ?

Don't tell me when you get lost in bear country.

I have seen it a few times on the S&W site.  Brother to the yellow grip.

I would love to fire it but no gun range rents it. I won't purchase it because it would be wasted by no use. [unless I have some unruly bear like customers]

It is however very nice.  Now I am considering a S&W wheel.

Either a 60 or the heavier 686.  It would be my first of its type.

Well if you never need it, [hope you don't] At least it will be the coolest piece of equipment in the plane carry compartment.

That is cool for sure.I have a 3" Packer, .454 Casuall from Freedom Arms and a 3.5" .475 Linebaugh by Gary Reeder.Pretty violent to shoot with the heavy loads.Be careful with it `til you get used to the recoil

I had a .44 mag 2" snubbie ,ported by Sentinal Arms and it belched fire 6' out of the muzzle. :o

I'll be adding something else to the "kit" -- a 406 MHz SatFind PLB.

About a month ago my company had a wide body jet crash (main gear collapse and slide off the runway).  Everyone thinks of the onboard ELT, but there is one in the slide.  The Air Force contacted us and advised us they were receiving a distress beacon signal on one of there satellites.  The beacon in the slide that was deployed went off.  It is nice seeing this technology become cheaper and smaller.

Yes, it is great that technology (and finally the US Gov't -- the last to approve PLBs) have made these avaiailable as personal locator beacons.

My Breitling Emergency watch has the 121.5 MHz homing beacon -- about as portable as you can get.  However, in  February, 2009 -- the COSPAS-SARSAT will no longer monitor the 121.5 MHz frequency.  Only beacons equipped with the 406 MHz transmitters will function with the satellite system after that date.

So, all of the boat and aircraft equipped with the 121.5 MHz -only ELTs and EPIRBs will no longer activate the COSPAS-SARSAT system (you'll have to buy a 406 MHz beacon).  Search & rescue aircraft will continue use the 121.5 as a homing frequency -- once activated for a search -- but it will no longer be the frequency that activates the system...

For more information:

flyandscuba,

Please look into the following quote I found:

"I just bought a Breitling Emergecny watch and I can tell you the rumor about the 121.5 freq fading out is absolutly true.Therefor Breitling demands the watch to be sent back to the manufacturer in which they can upgrade the watch with parts compatible 406mhz freq.I just wanted to clear that up for anyone who had a question about that."
