S&W 642 concealment
« on: May 26, 2006, 07:26:52 AM »
Here is an interesting pocket holster to hide the 642, which hides easily anyway.

Lightning Arms Sports did not have Milt Sparks PCM-R, so I took this in cordovan, the last remaining color.  The canted version is appropriate, unless you need the straight version for blue jeans.

The leather is thin and stiff, and will require a brief break-in period perhaps carrying unloaded for a couple of days.

+1 for PCS Holsters.

I've purchased several and currently have one for my 642 and
Keltecs, too.

Great pocket holsters.  Good luck with yours, Gunner.....

Thanks, One45.  My research was brief, but  I knew that Craig & Audrey at Lightning Arms Sports would carry the good things.

Glad to know you enjoy yours.

It looked like a great way to hide the pocket holster and avoid printing.

I bought Gold Dot 38 Special +P in 125 grain, and later noticed that 135 grain was especially formulated for snubbies.  Oh well.

Can you get plain old 38 Special at Walmart?  I'm not into pain and punishment with that little light revolver, at least for practice sessions at the range.

Bill,

You shouldn't have to carry it unloaded to break it in.  No reason not to keep it loaded IMHO.  Worst case is that it is hard to get off if you have to draw, but there is not safety issue in carrying.

If you want to speed up the break in process, wrap the gun in a layer of cellophane, or even a cheap grocery store plastic bag, then put the gun in the holster overnight.  That provides gentle stretching -- the more layers, the more the stretch.  I don't find that pocket holster need a lot of retention.

However, if the holster sticks a bit, its pretty easy for it to catch on the pocket edge on the way out, especially if your draw stroke is slightly to the rear of the pocket.

Yes -- Wally World carries plain old .38s in my area.  I think the only premium defensive loads are Hydrashocks.

Thanks, Duane.

I'm really looking forward to carrying it.   It's quite a little gem.

Evening Gunner:

10-4 on Craig and Audrey's products.  When I first got a
PCS holster I thought they were way too thin but, they sure
last and last.  I put a fresh coat of shoe polish on my once in
a while but, that is it.  They look just like new.

Also, got a nice pair of Craig Spiegel grips for the 642 from
Craig and Audrey.

I'm shooting the plus p stuff.  Also, bought a speed strip
for 5 more pocket rounds.

Best regards and have a good holiday weekend.

Thanks to all our Veterans.

One45,

What kind of speed strip did you get for your 642?

How do you carry those extra five rounds?  It sounds like a good idea.

Good Day, Bill:

I picked up the Bianchi Speed Strips.  Purchased them from
Dillon Press on-line.  I just keep 5 rounds (they can hold 6)
and put them in my pocket opposite my pistol.  I don't like
to carry change or other things so just the speed strip.
I like the security of 5 more, if needed.  Not that I'm any
speed loader or any thing like that.  Anyhoo, I alternate between the Rohrbaugh, the 642 or sometimes the P7.

Best, Lee

Thanks, Lee.  I ordered some today from Midway USA.  I have a new nylon sports billfold, and hope it will slip into it somehow for back pocket carry.

As usual, my order from Lightning Arms Sports arrived two days later.  Pretty outstanding service, I would say.

Lee,

I just wanted to tell you that my One45 is an HK USP .45 full size.

I'm waiting for the new HK45 to become available.

Good Morning, Bill:

I like those Hk's, too.  I kinda gravitated to the .45 years
ago and hence the moniker.  I'm now on a 10mm kick though.
Love that 10.

I guess I really like all guns, however.

I checked it out on the HK website.  Very nice.

Best regards, Lee

I can confirm that the PCS NO-See-Um pocket holster is indeed thin and stiff.  It is of the very highest quality, indeed.  You absolutely would never know it contained a handgun.

I'm confident that in a month or so, it will adjust to the curve of the leg during break-in.

For what it's worth, Milt Sparks has a new improved model of the PCH pocket holster.

Hey Bill - have you shot that gun yet - like to have some feedback on range session.

As I said before I would only shoot +P every so often in the Airweight and practice with standard pressure .38.

I had bought a box of Federal Hydra-Shok +P 129 grain JHP for carry in my Airweight but I have never carried it or shot it yet.  Will probably just use the hydra-shoks in my S&W model 60.

Dave,

I'm hoping to go up in northern Michigan in a couple of weeks and try it out.  A report will certainly follow.

MidwayUSA just shipped some Gold Dot 135gr +P short barrel stuff.

I'm also going to oil up the R9s and try two magazines of Super-X.
