That HK is a very well made gun, but, you need to be a big dawg to carry it for long. Thats what makes a SEAL a SEAL, a 90# pack and the big dawg! What a great series of photos! Regards, Tom
I think you are talking about it's bigger brother, the HK SOCOM MK23 Mod0, the SEALs current issued gun. All handguns are for defensive purpose, but the SOCOM was designed from the beginning to be an offensive handgun! It is even bigger and heavier than this tactical model.
However, IMHO, this "smaller" tactical does everything that the bigger brother can do with less weight and size (besides the silence decocking feature.) It is what HK should had proposed to the SEALs in the 1st place. In the current issue of S.W.A.T. magazine, there is a review of this exact little brother. The reviewer stated that several of the SEAL members use the issued SOCOM "at work" but prefer to carry the tactical off-duty. There also are unofficial reports that some foreign special op units have adopted the USP tactical instead of the SOCOM. But it is still a little large of a gun for average joe (me!).
Nevertheless, is a very reassurance tool when holding it in the hand. And with 13 rounds of .45ACP ready at your disposal, it creates confidence. I do plan on carrying it daily, but in my LAPD's issued "bailout" bag that looks like a laptop bag. It has a perfect hidden pocket for a gun for fast draw. It is my off-body backup gun when sh*t hits the fan.
Cheers!
