Ghost Chili

I'm completely off the subject here, but I was picking Ghost Peppers (Bhut Jalokia) in my garden this afternoon and was wondering if they have anything to do with your "Rohrbaugh alias".  What's the story?

Indeed they do.  A group of good friends and I enjoy spicy foods and we often find ourselves challenging each other in how spicy of a pepper we can eat.  Rather than just eat the peppers themselves, we would make dishes and spice them up.  One of the guys made a venison chili and used a number of ghost peppers in it.  At the time, I did not know of the ghost pepper and felt I was more than up to the challenge of eating a bowl.  I managed to finish the bowl of chili, but I was quite miserable after the second spoonful.  I was the only one out of 5 of us to finish my bowl and thus gained the respect of my peers.  I understand there is a hotter pepper out there known as the Scorpion pepper.  I may have to change my forum name should I conquer that one.

There is some controversy about the Trinidad Scorpion Peppers.  Although they registered close to 2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units in a test at the Chile Pepper Institute, the guy cannot replicate that hot of a pepper again so New Mexico State still says the Bhut Jolokia is the world's hottest pepper.  Yor namesake is safe so far.

Thanks for the link!  Very informative.  I guess there is an organization for just about anything out there.

Wow, 2 million SHC!  The Bhut Jolokia had my eyes watering, nose running, and I was drooling uncontrollably once it all kicked in.  I was wondering if getting pepper sprayed would be a similar experience.  If they ever manage to produce the Scorpion with a consistent 2 million SHC, I'll look into trying to get some.

I read in an article some place (can't find it now) that the guy who raised the scorpion fertilized them with runoff froma a worm farm.  Good story anyway.
